A descriptive study to assess the knowledge regarding diabetic foot ulcer among diabetic clients in a selected hospital, Kancheepuram district, Tamil Nadu. Convenient sampling technique was used to select 100 diabetic patients who were in hospital. Data were gathered through structured knowledge questionnaire .The results mainly found that 56% patients had inadequate level of knowledge,38% had average level of knowledge,6%had an adequate level of knowledge. The Association between knowledge score and demographic variables was assessed by using chi-square. There was significant association between age, sex, marital status and family history of diabetes with knowledge score. The findings revealed that there is need planned teaching programme regarding diabetic ulcer foot.

Background: Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS) is recurrent variable cluster of troublesome physical and emotional symptoms that develop 7–14 days before the onset of menstruation and subsides when menstruation occurs. Premenstrual syndrome is a psychophysiological stress induced disorder. Stress disturbs the balance of sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system. Changes in heart rate and blood pressure are the most important physiological response following stress. Objectives: To correlate the perceived stress and premenstrual symptoms among adolescent girls. Design: A correlational survey was adopted for the study Setting: Government Higher secondary school, Pallakkapalyam, Namakkal District. Participants: 60 adolescent girls fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected by simple random sampling technique. Methods: All participants were given a questionnaire to complete; questions were related to Baseline Proforma of adolescent girls, rating scale on the common premenstrual symptoms and perceived stress scale, participants were given 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire. Results: The findings revealed that, there was significant correlation between perceived stress and premenstrual symptoms (P < 0.05). There was no significant association between the premenstrual symptoms and perceived stress with their demographic variables like age, age at menarche, duration of cycle, type of flow, family history of PMS, academic performance, school absenteeism, source of information and use of home remedies. Conclusion: There was significant correlation between perceived stress and premenstrual symptoms. As the perceived stress increases the premenstrual symptoms among adolescent girls also increased.Keywords

Background: Convulsion disease among children from birth to adolescence is seen to be problematic almost throughout the world. Seizures are common in the pediatric age group and occur in 10% of children. Objectives: To assess the educational intervention on knowledge and attitude of mothers regarding care of children with convulsion disorder. Design: quasi experimental design was used. Setting: Melmaruvathur village at Kancheepuram district.
Participants: 150mothers selected by fulfilling inclusion criteria.
Materials and methods: Pretest was conducted to all the participants by using structured questionnaire for assessing knowledge and likert scale for assessment of attitude. Participants were given 30-45 minutes to complete the questionnaire. Educational intervention was given to all the participants. After 7 days post test was conducted by using the same questionnaire.
Results and discussion: The findings revealed that pretest 126(84%)mothers had inadequate knowledge and 24(16%)had moderately adequate knowledge . In post test 112 (74.67%) mothers had adequate knowledge and 32(21.33%) had moderately adequate knowledge. In attitude pretest 120(80%) had poor attitude and 30 (20%) had fair attitude. In post test 126(84%) had good attitude and 20 (13.33%) had fair attitude about mother regarding care of children with convulsion disorder.
Conclusion: Effectiveness of educational intervention paired 't' test showed that educational intervention was statistically significant at p<0.05 level of mothers regarding care of children with convulsion disorder. This study proved that the knowledge and attitude of mothers had markedly increased after the educational intervention.

Background: Premenstrual syndromes are the symptoms which occur during one week before menstruation and sometime symptoms are so severe enough to disturb life cycle of a women. She adopts different method to cope-up with problem.
Aim: Assess the premenstrual symptoms and coping behavior among adolescent. Methods: A descriptive study was conducted among adolescent girls at Government Higher Secondary School, Erode during the month of December 2013 to assess the premenstrual syndrome and coping behaviour among adolescent girls. A total 248 students from all classes were selected for collection of data. The questionnaire consisted of two parts. Part one is assessment of premenstrual syndrome and part two is for check list on coping behaviour.
Results: Majority (96%) students were having pain in lower abdomen, 93% were having difficulty in concentration, 87% had backache, pain in thighs& body ache. 83% of them had pain in breast and 81% were irritability and lower work performance and 78% were fluctuation of mood. Majority of student were using healthy coping strategies. i.e., 84% do not blame themselves for this problem, 71% accept it in healthy way that nothing can be done, 70% take hot or cold drinks. 64% do not express their anger on others. They accept it as a natural process as nothing can be done and try to cope up in healthy way.

Background: Cervical cancer is second most common cancer in the world and leading cause of death from cancer among women in developing countries.
Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge regarding cervical cancer among women and to find out the association between knowledge score regarding cervical cancer with selected demographic variables of women.
Design: Univariant research designs were adopted for this study.
Setting: The study was conducted in Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. Kanchipuram district
Participants: 50 women who fulfill the inclusion criteria were selected as sample . Methods: The study design was univariant research design was used for the study. The convenient sampling technique was used to select the fifty samples. The data were collected by administering the structured knowledge questionnaire on cervical cancer to assess the level of knowledge among women.
Results: The study finding revealed that the women had 35(70%) inadequate knowledge and 15(30%) had moderate knowledge regarding cervical cancer .Some of the demographic variables like educational status, religion and source of information are significantly association at (p<0.05) with knowledge score of women.

The National heart, lung and blood institute has estimated that half of the persons with hypertension do not know that they have prolonged elevation of blood pressure eventually damages blood vessels throughout the body mostly in the eyes, heart, kidneys and brain. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice among patients with hypertension, to find out the effectiveness of structured teaching programme among hypertensive patients, to correlate relationship between demographic factors and knowledge attitude and practice hypertensive patients pre experimental research design was adopted setting for the study was Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Institute. Hundred(100) newly diagnosed both male and female patients with hypertension between the age group of 40 and 70 years attending OPD Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute Of Medical Sciences And Research Institute were selected by using Convenient Sampling Technique. Data was collected by using Questionnaire to assess, knowledge, three point LIKERT scale for attitude and checklist to asses practices On Hypertension. Descriptive And Inferential Statistics like paired 't' test, chi-square test and correlation test was used. The study result revealed that in pretest hypertensive clients had inadequate knowledge with the mean 33.7, attitude with the mean of 47, practice with the mean of 34.7.in post test it was found that hypertensive clients gained knowledge with the mean value of 88, attitude of 85, practice of 85.5. The overall findings of the study showed that structured teaching programme is very effective in improving the knowledge, attitude and practice on hypertension with t value 0.064 at p<0.005 level.Keywords

Background: Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is used to describe physical, cognitive, affective and behavioural symptoms that occur cyclically during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and resolve quickly at or within a few days of the onset of menstruation. It affects half of all female adolescents today and represents the leading cause of periodic college/school absenteeism among that population.
Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of SIM on premenstrual syndrome among adolescents.
Design: A one group pre test and post test Pre experimental design was adopted for the study.
Setting: Selected area, Erode.
Participants: 40 adolescent girls with fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected by purposive sampling.
Methods: A pre test was conducted by using knowledge questionnaire related to premenstrual syndrome. Immediately after pre test self instructional module was given to the adolescent girls to read about the premenstrual syndrome for 7 days and 8th day post test was conducted to assess the effectiveness of SIM. Collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results : In pre test , the mean score of the sample was 6.73 and the post test mean score was 23.54 with Paired't' value of 21.82. This showed that the SIM was effective in enhancing the knowledge of the adolescent girls regarding premenstrual syndrome. There was a statistically no significant association found between the post test scores of the sample with their demographic variables.
Conclusion: The findings imply the need for educating adolescent girls on effective management of premenstrual syndrome. Education should be extended to parents and school peer leaders to address the reproductive health needs of adolescents.

This study conducted with the objective to assess the pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness regarding ill effect of alcohol abuse and to compare the pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness regarding ill effect of alcohol abuse among the lorry drivers. The study design used was one group pretest post test design. 60 lorry drivers were selected as a sample based on inclusive and exclusive criteria. Study sample were nominated according to non probability convenient sampling technique. The data was collected by using structured questionnaire to assess the level of awareness regarding ill effects of alcohol abuse, after getting informed consent the pretest was done by administering the structured questionnaire on level of awareness regarding the ill effects of alcoholic abuse, psychoeducation was given on ill effects of alcoholic abuse. On the same day after one week post test was done by administering the same tool. The pretest mean score was 173, S.D 22,9, the post mean score was 228 S.D was 44.3. Comparison of pretest and post test psychoeducational level of awareness score on ill effect of alcoholic abuse analyzed by using paired 't' test showed that there was high statistical significance at p<0.001 level. The study concluded that psychoeducation was effective in improving the level of awareness on ill effect of alcoholic abuse among lorry drivers.Keywords

The present study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of counseling on readiness to change the behaviour among the alcoholic abuser. The study was conducted at Arikampedu village, Thiruvallur District, Chennai. The objectives of the study was to assess the pretest level of readiness to change behaviour among the alcoholic abuser., to assess the post test level of readiness to change the behaviour among the alcoholic abuser, to compare the pre and post test counseling level of readiness to change behaviour among the alcoholic abuser. The research approach adopted for the study is quantitative research approach. One group pretest and post test design. Convenience sampling technique was adopted for the study, sample size is 30, selected based on the inclusive and exclusive criteria. The data was obtained by using a demographic proforma and Audit scale for screening of alcoholic abuse, Socrates - personal drinking questionnaire was used to assess the effectiveness of counseling. Result showed that the comparison of pre and post test conseling level of readiness to change the behaviour, for recognition F = 15.52, for ambivalence - 68.68, taking step F = 3.35 which showed a high statistical significance at p<0.01 level.Keywords

Objectives: To assess the prevalence of pre-menstrual syndrome among adolescent girls. Design: A cross - sectional descriptive design was adopted for the study.
Setting: Seventh Day Adventists School, Erode.
Participants: 200 adolescent girls fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected by Stratified sampling technique.
Methods: All participants were given a questionnaire to complete; questions were related to Baseline Proforma of adolescent girls and checklist on the common premenstrual symptoms, participants were given 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
Results: The findings revealed that the majority (54%) of the samples had mild PMS, 28% as moderate and 18% of them had severe PMS. There was a significant association between the prevalence of PMS scores and variables like age ( χ2 = 4.51 , p > 0.05) and school absenteeism ( χ2= 6.62 , p > 0.05). But there was no significant association with prevalence of PMS among adolescent girls and other variables like age at menarche, duration of cycle, type of flow, family history of PMS, academic performance and source of information.
Conclusion: PMS is highly prevalent among female students. Maximum participants do not seek medical advice and taking self treatment.

Background: Dysmenorrhea is the most common of gynecologic complaints. It affects half of all female adolescents today and represents the leading cause of periodic college/school absenteeism among that population.
Objectives: To assess the effectiveness of ginger powder on dysmenorrheal symptoms among adolescents.
Design: A one group pre test and post test Pre experimental design was adopted for the study.
Setting: Seventh Day Adventists School, Erode.
Participants: 30 adolescent girls with dysmenorrhoeal symptoms fulfilling the inclusion criteria were selected by convenient sampling.
Methods: A pre test was conducted by using menstrual symptoms assessment scale. Immediately after pre test 1 gm ginger powder was given two times a day for 7 days and again post test was conducted to assess the effectiveness of ginger powder. Collected data was analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results : In pre test , the mean score of the sample was 65.12 (SD= 8.74)) and the post test mean score was 43.24 (SD = 6.72) with Paired't'value of 23.02.This showed that the ginger powder was effective in enhancing the practice of the sample regarding dysmenorrhoeal symptoms. There was a statistically no significant association found between the post test scores of the sample with their demographic variables.
Conclusion: The findings imply the need for educating adolescent girls on effective management of dysmenorrhoea. Education should be extended to parents and school peer leaders to address the reproductive health needs of adolescents.

The learning disability plays a significant role as a silent handicap among children. It is estimated that 4-5% of students in school have learning disability. As there are no specific test to identify children with learning disability, health professionals have to rely mainly on teacher's report for its diagnosis. Previous studies have proved that teacher's towards such children have great influence towards their recovery. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: To assess the pre test and post test knowledge of experimental and control group of teachers regarding learning disabilities.
1. To compare the pre test and post test knowledge of experimental and control group of teachers regarding learning disabilities.
2. To compare the post test knowledge of experimental and control group of teacher regarding learning disabilities.
3. To find out significant association between knowledge of experimental and control group of primary school teachers and selected demographic variables regarding learning disabilities. METHODOLOGY: The research design adopted for this study was quasi experimental design and research approach adopted for this was to evaluative the educative approach. The sample size was 60 teachers. In this, 30 teachers were selected for experimental group and 30 for control group by purposive sampling method. Teachers were selected in selected schools at Coimbatore. Data was collected by using structured questionnaire, this consists of two sections. Section I on Demographic variables and Section II on Questionnaire regarding knowledge. RESULTS: The finding of the experimental group of teacher's pre test knowledge and mean score was 16.6 (41.50%) and level of knowledge was inadequate. In post test knowledge score was 33.3 (83.25%). Now the level of knowledge was adequate in experimental group. Similarly in the control group pre test knowledge mean score was 17.2 (43.00%) and post test knowledge mean score was 19.1 (47.75%). In the comparison of experimental group and control group. In the pre test there is no significance difference between the experimental and control group but after self instruction module it is observed significant difference between experimental and control group. Teachers gained knowledge above 41.75% more knowledge on learning disabilities after administration of self instruction module. This 41.75% of knowledge gain is the net benefit of this study which indicates the effectiveness of self instructional module learning disabilities in experimental group than control groups. The student independent't' test and chi square shows there was significant association between post test knowledge score and selected demographic variables in experimental group like age and experience of teachers than control group. CONCLUSION: The findings of the study showed that a paediatric nurse conducted training programme regarding learning disabilities among the primary school teachers. The study revealed theta the level of knowledge regarding learning disability was low among school teachers in control group and concluded that need for providing knowledge on learning disability is an important strategy to utilize teachers as effective contributors towards child health services.
