Abstract

Healthcare workers are potentially exposed to blood and body fluids in the course of their work and therefore they are at risk of infection with blood-borne pathogens. Evidence exists that compliance with Universal Precautions reduces the risk of infections and protects healthcare practitioners. A descriptive study on knowledge and practice of health care workers regarding infection control measures was conducted in selected wards of Christian Medical College, Vellore. 106 nursing personnel (61 staff nurses and 45 student nurses) were selected by convenient sampling technique and the knowledge was assessed by structured knowledge assessment questionnaire and practice was assessed by an observation checklist. It was found that majority of the nursing staff (67.2%) and nursing students (71.1%) had adequate knowledge and regarding practice, hand washing steps were not carried out correctly by 14% doctors, 27.3% of nursing staff and 25.5% of the nursing students followed by 33.3% of the doctors, 21.9 % of the staff and 24.5% of the students has not used hand rub to disinfect the hands. There was a significant association (p = 0.023) between the level of knowledge and the year of experience at (p ≤ 0.05) level.

Abstract

End of life or palliative care is an area of nursing that has belongs to the older or cancer populations. We now recognize that all age groups are entitled in end of life. Some of the new born are born dying their families need support during a time that supposed to be filled with joy. They require special skills to help them to face this tough challenge as a parent. End of life is more than advanced directives or living wills; it is a philosophy of care that provides empathy and support during a crisis.

Abstract

A descriptive study was conducted to assess the knowledge of parent's of adolescents regarding adolescence health in Child Health OPD of Christian Medical College, Vellore. Twenty mothers of adolescents were chosen by convenience sampling. The investigator used a structured interview questionnaire to assess demographic variables and knowledge. It was found that 60% of the parents had adequate knowledge regarding adolescent health and there was a significant relationship between the age of the child and the parents knowledge (p = 0.002), locality and level of knowledge (p = 0.012).

Abstract

Delegation is the use of personnel to accomplish a desired objective through allocation of authority and responsibility. Delegation is not merely distributing care. It is a path to and a significant success factor for professional practice. Delegation is a link that joins organizational concepts with the management process; it is that which allows a manager to manage. Educational programme has emphasized primary nursing as the dominant method of delivering nursing care which focuses on the skill of individual nurse. As a nurse manager it is essential to know about the principles, purpose, steps, and concepts of delegation. It is also necessary to know about the barriers of delegation and the effective measures to overcome those barriers.
