In India, about 30% of the total population is comprised of school going children. Thus, school children constitute a vital and substantial segment of population. They are the future citizens and asset for their families and nation. School children are vulnerable segment of the population and they are prone to get specific health problems. Health appraisal is a major component of school health programme. The role of the school teacher is very important and fundamental in school health services, participation of the teacher in child care is of great value and there is no substitute for this. Thus, the researcher felt the need to conduct the study and evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme for school teachers on health appraisal of school children.
Objectives:
1. To assess the existing knowledge of school teachers regarding health appraisal of school children through pre-test knowledge scores. 2. To determine the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on health appraisal of school children as measured by post-test knowledge scores. 3. To find out the association between pre-test knowledge and selected baseline variables.
Methods: Pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test design was adopted to accomplish the objectives of the study. A sample of 50 school teachers was selected by using purposive sampling technique. Initial knowledge of the teachers on health appraisal was determined by administering structured knowledge questionnaire. A validated STP on health appraisal was given to the teachers and its effectiveness was determined by post-test knowledge score.
Results: Findings of the study revealed that the mean percentage of knowledge in the pre-test was 46.86% (mean: 14.06±3.519) and the mean percentage of post-test was 80.53% (mean: 24.16±2.985). Further effectiveness was tested using paired 't' test. The difference between pre-rest and post-test knowledge scores was found to be significant (t49=17.647, P<0.05). Conclusion: From the study findings, it is revealed that there was significant increase in the knowledge scores of the school teachers after structured teaching programme. Therefore, it was concluded that planned teaching programme was highly effective in improving the knowledge of school teachers regarding health appraisal of school children.

Anemia is the reduction in the quantity of the oxygen carrying pigment, hemoglobin in the blood. It is one of the major health problems seen among the adolescent girls. A descriptive study was conducted to assess the knowledge regarding iron deficiency anemia among adolescent girls. 100 samples from selected rural areas of Mysore were selected using non probability convenient sampling. Data collection tool consisted of a personal profile and a structured questionnaire to assess the knowledge regarding prevention of iron deficiency anemia among adolescent girls. Content validity of the tool was established in consultation with subject experts. Reliability of the tool was done by using split half technique and the tool was found reliable. Collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The findings of the study revealed that maximum number of adolescent girls is having average knowledge regarding the prevention of iron deficiency anemia. It is found that the association between the level of knowledge of adolescent girls regarding the prevention of iron deficiency anemia is statistically not significant with their age, education, education of the parents, dietary pattern, previous information, type of family, religion and number of children in the family but there is an association between the family income and knowledge of adolescent girls. From the study it can be interpreted that majority of adolescent girl's knowledge regarding prevention of iron deficiency anemia is nearly average. From this study we found that there is a necessity to improve knowledge, so we have given the information booklet regarding the same.- A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Health Exhibition and Video Show on Knowledge Regarding the Exclusive Breastfeeding Among Nursing Mothers at Immunization Clinic, Makkala Koota, Mysore

Breast milk is the natural first food for babies. It provides all the energy and nutrients that the infant needs for the first few months of life. It continues to provide up to half or more of the child's nutritional needs during the second half of the first year, and up to one third during the second year of life. Appropriate feeding is crucial for the healthy growth and development of the infant. Breastmilk promotes sensory and cognitive development, and protects the infant against infectious and chronic diseases. Exclusive breastfeeding reduces infant mortality due to common childhood illnesses such as diarrhea, pneumonia, and helps for a quicker recovery during illness.
Objectives:
1. To assess the knowledge of nursing mothers regarding the importance of exclusive breastfeeding.
2. To determine the effectiveness of health exhibition and video show on knowledge regarding exclusive breastfeeding among nursing mothers.
3. To find the association between knowledge scores of nursing mothers and selected demographic variables.
Methods: A pre experimental one group pre test post test design was adopted to accomplish the objectives of the study. A sample of 60 nursing mothers was selected by using convenient sampling technique. The knowledge of the nursing mothers on importance of exclusive breastfeeding was determined by administering structured questionnaire.
Conclusion: From the study findings, it is revealed that there was significant increase in the knowledge scores of the school nursing mothers after health exhibition and video show. Therefore, it was concluded that planned teaching programme was highly effective in improving the knowledge of school nursing mothers regarding importance of exclusive breast feeding.

In this study, an attempt is made to assess the knowledge of nurses regarding Occupational safety measures and to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on Occupational safety measures.
Objectives:
1. To assess the existing knowledge of nurses regarding Occupational safety measures in terms of pre test scores.
2. To assess the knowledge of nurses regarding Occupational safety measures after conducting planned teaching programme in terms of post test scores.
3. To determine the effectiveness of planned teaching programme by comparing the pre and post test knowledge scores.
4. To determine the association between the pre test knowledge scores with selected demographic variables.
Methods: An evaluative approach with one group pretest-post test design was adapted for the study. The structured knowledge questionnaire on occupational hazards and safety measures was used to collect the data. The study was conducted at JSS Hospital, Mysore among 70 Staff Nurses selected by using non-probability convenient sampling technique.
Results:
Findings of the study revealed that nurses in public health settings had low level of knowledge regarding occupational hazards, safety measures and self care to prevent effects of hazards with overall pretest knowledge level being 17.72 and the overall posttest knowledge of occupational safety measures of the nurses was 31.70 and there was a statistically significant difference found between the pre test and post test knowledge scores at the level of p<0.05.
Conclusion:
From the study findings, it is revealed that there was significant increase in the knowledge scores of the school staff nurses after the planned teaching programme. Therefore, it was concluded that planned teaching programme was highly effective in improving the knowledge of staff nurses regarding occupational safety measures.
