Performance Appraisal of Employees in Regional Rural Banks – A Study with Reference to Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank

The contribution of the RRBs to financial inclusion in rural areas has been significant. With swift expansion in the number of branches and the new functions assigned to them, banks are beginning to feel a new pressure on their organizational abilities i.e. the processes of recruitment, placement, training, promotion and appraisal, in order to ensure that the right number of staff with the right capacities are available at the right time and for the right places. In this study an attempt is made to examine the performance appraisal system in Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank and to study the attitude of the employees, employee appraisal and development in Andhra Pragathi Grameena Bank. The study relies on both primary and secondary data. The descriptive research design is employed in this research study. The structured questionnaire is tool of the primary data collection. The stratified random sampling technique is adopted for the selection of sample units with 300 as sample size. The collected data was analyzed with the help of weighted average, Standard deviation and t-test. The analyzed data reveals that RRB's competes by innovating and developing the core competencies of their human resources. Performance Appraisal System is a very critical component of Human Resource Development. The human resource system can be made effective by having a valid appraisal system that also acts as a true motivator. The Performance appraisal system should be effective in such way that it should promote effectively performed employees to the higher level positions, Superiors should extend their support to their subordinates development and performance appraisal feedback should be provided to the employees so that they can improve their motivation, job satisfaction and performance levels, which ultimately helpful in enhancing the bank productivity.
