Abstract

Three insecticides i.e. Endosulfan (0.05%), Cypermethrin (0.05%) and Malathion (0.05%) were sprayed against the infestation of shoot and fruit borer to evaluate suitable control measure against the pest to get the higher yield. The minimum (21.5%) infestation was observed with Endosulfan followed by Cypermethrin (24.13%) and Malathion (25.17%). Total yield of healthy brinjal fruits was higher (350q/h) with Endosulfan treated plants and lowest (112.5q/h) with control. High profit was obtained from Endosulfan (0.07%) applied schedule followed by Cypermethrin (0.05%) for each rupee.

Abstract

Cape gooseberry (Physalis peruviana L.) plants were treated with paclobutrazol (12.5, 25, 50 and 100 ppm) and ethephon (100, 200, 400 and 800 ppm) in a field experiment during Rabi season. The biochemical constituents estimated were acidity, tolal soluble solids (TSS), total sugar, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar and ascorbic acid (Vit. ‘C’). The result indicate that 50 ppm paclobutrazol and 400 ppm ethephon, significantly increased the TSS, total sugar, reducing sugar, ascorbic acid (Vit. ‘C’) and decreased acidity and non-reducing sugar. A highly significant increase in yield by 131 per cent with ethephon 400 ppm and by 105 per cent with paclobutrazol was noticed over control.

Abstract

For degreening of sweet orange fruits post-harvest application of ethephon (2-chloroethyl phosphonic acid) was tried alone and in combination with carbendazim (fungicide) 0.05%. Ethephon 0.2% degreened the fruits in 3-5 days, while the untreated fruits remained green. There was no effect of ethephon on T.S.S., ascorbic acid, acidity and juice content. Higher rate of ethephon increased the storage rot as compared to lower rate. The storage rot was effectively controlled when ethephon was applied along with 0.05% carbendazim. Use of carbendazim with ethephon neither increased the efficacy for degreening nor, had adverse effect on the fruit quality.
