Abstract

Though literature on information and knowledge management is vast, there is much confusion concerning the meaning of these terms. According to the literature review, technology-oriented information management includes data management, information technology management and strategic information technology management. The main emphasis of these approaches is the effective and efficient use of information technology. In contrast, content-oriented approaches focus on information and its use. They can be distinguished in records management, provision of external information, human-centered information management, and information resources management. The reading of the literature on knowledge management reveals that this term is either used synonymously for information management or for the management of work practices with the goal of improving the generation of new knowledge and the sharing of existing knowledge. This article identifies various aspects that are embraced by the terms information and knowledge management. Thus, it should contribute to more terminological clarity and finally improve communication both in science and in professional practice. In this sense, the author hopes that this article will not only contribute to more terminological clarity but have further positive implications.

Abstract

The paper highlights the use of e-learning resources in medical colleges. Study found that the Medical education popularized only after the independence of the country. It is found that majority of the colleges under the study have e-information resources, e-databases. Almost all colleges under study are also becoming members of a consortium. As for as the infrastructure facilities are concerned almost all colleges under study have provided very good infrastructure facilities to their libraries to serve their client effectively. Further, majority of colleges are also having internet and network facilities.

Abstract

This paper focuses on the in the decision-making importance of digitization of library materials process. The paper poses a series of questions to be answered which will facilitate the decision-making process of library professionals. They poses the questions as to what and how to digitize into the larger framework of collection building by focusing, first, on the nature of the collections and their use, and, second, on the realities of the institutional context in which these decisions are made. Their method is, above all, most helpful in its pragmatic approach to the unsettling dynamism of the digital technology itself. They view technology as a tool to serve specific collections-related goals and assess the available technology for its ability to aid or obstruct access and preservation.
