The purpose of this paper is to assess basic information literacy competency and the perception of information literacy behavior of post-graduate students and research scholars at Panjab University, Chandigarh. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect the primary data from the respondents and results were analyzed and presented in the tabulated form. The findings of the study discussed and necessary suggestions have been made on the basis of the results for implementing proper information literacy competency programmes at Panjab University, Chandigarh. The study has been found that students require competency to solve information related problems.Keywords

The purpose of this study is to investigate the use and usage of OPAC in public libraries in Chandigarh City, India. Attempt has been made to know the usage of OPAC in public libraries in terms of users' frequency, purpose of use, search pattern, search approach, usage of help tips and help, problem faced and satisfaction level. A total of 289 questionnaires out of 300, duly filled-in by the respondents were received and analyzed using the simple percentage approach. The final result revealed that there is lack of computer skill and awareness on part of users, lack of proper orientation and cooperation from the library staff. Findings revealed that most of the users are satisfied with the OPAC and its services but they are not aware of all its services. In the end, suggestions have been made on the basis of the study for the effective and proper utilization of OPAC and its services.Keywords

This paper is based on a bibliometric analysis of Library and Information Science (LIS) research publications in India. The data for the period 1951-2010 was extracted from the Science Citation Index (SCI) and grouped into six blocks each covering a period of ten years. Apart from papers, the present study also touched upon production of Ph.Ds in library and information science in India. The average annual growth of Ph.Ds is 31.05% in the total span of sixty years, whereas average annual growth was found to be 26.07% in the same period. Information centres contributed 6% of total LIS research output whereas highest contribution (34%) was made by LIS professionals working in technical institutions. Over 50% papers were of single authorship. The low productivity and quality of research output in library and information science is also discussed.Keywords

This study is about the management of newspaper clippings in print media libraries of North India. The study includes data from twelve print media libraries from north India. The data was collected using the questionnaire method. The result shows that the print media libraries used traditional methods for storing newspaper clippings. Only 16.66% of the newspaper libraries used computerized indexing for managing their newspaper collection.Keywords
