This population has its own notions, practices, judgments, and opinions, which are often the results of their historical experiences, traditional living style, and cultural values and practices. With the awakening of development, education has become one of the most crucial factors of quality living. Fortunately, even rural India has started accepting the change and the wave of education and development. Yet there is a long way to go. Keeping the same in mind, this research provides an overview of the mentality, psychology, beliefs, and thoughts of the people related to education and development in rural India. The research develops around the survey conducted in a rural village of North India (Uttar Pradesh), which collected the opinions and views people hold on subjects related to education and development in rural India. The indifference for schooling because of high expenditures, gender bias on the educational front, lack of parental motivation for quality and higher education, irregular attendance at schools, and low aspirations among villages because of poverty dynamics are some of the findings that the paper discusses. Furthermore, the collected data of the survey provides a peek into the lives of rural people, who form almost 65% of the population, with an emphasis on the rural developmental factors. Simultaneously, it is widely acknowledged and analysed that the domestic road construction industry is inefficient, threatening its role as a driver of the country’s economic growth. Thus, the objective of the study was to make comparative analysis of domestic and foreign contractors’ performance in Ethiopian road construction in terms of cost, time, and quality. To meet the objective of the study a document review, semi-structured interview, and focused group discussion (FGD) were used as a data collection tool. Based on analysis, the finding shows that the domestic contractors are far from being competitive in terms of cost overrun, time overrun and quality performance but it is promising progress over time. Finally, the study mainly recommends domestic contractors should be mindful of the severe competition they face from foreign firms. This necessitates the participation of both the construction industry and the government in improving the sector’s competitiveness. Local road construction firms operate in a challenging business climate. Construction companies’ ability to use internal resources such as human resources, finance, equipment and plant, marketing information, technology, and others is encouraged because it gives contractors a competitive advantage. Allocating and effectively utilising such resources enables them to accomplish many client objectives, such as completing projects on schedule, under budget, and to specified quality standards. This paper evaluates the causal effect of the new road connectivity on the healthcare benefits accrued to the previously unconnected village households, specifically the pregnancy care and contraceptive use, awareness and hygiene, and social interaction. The nonparametric fuzzy regression discontinuity design (FRDD) is applied to the data derived from the 2007-2008 District Level Household Survey (DLHS-3) and the Socioeconomic High-Resolution Rural-Urban Geographic Platform for India (SHRUG) data. The FRDD estimates show that in the treatment villages, more women seek antenatal care, have delivery conducted in hospitals and use modern contraceptive methods. In the villages newly connected with roads, awareness of government health care programmes like prevention of sex selection and female foeticide, treat water and take health insurance coverage has increased. The provision of all-weather roads to unconnected villages is also more likely to impact social interaction and more participation in women’s self-help groups, and village assembly takes important decisions on preventive healthcare.
