Abstract

Objectives: This paper aims at making an empirical analysis on such factors that play a role of motivator in enhancing the aspect of entrepreneurship among women, with special reference to Thanjavur district. This paper also focuses attention on the challenges faced by women in the pursuit of entrepreneurship. Methods/Analysis: Descriptive research design was used. The primary data was collected from 400 samples from rural and urban areas of Thanjavur district using a structured questionnaire with the help of survey and snow ball sampling method. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis. Findings: The result of the motivational factors indicates that financial need motivates women to the highest degree to become entrepreneurs compared to other factors like supplementing the family income, improve the social status, etc. Further, the study has used Rotated component Matrix to factorise the important motivational factors. The result of the Rotated component matrix reveals that the twelve variables were subjected to extraction method and finally the five factors were analysed. The first factor reveals that women have taken up this venture as a pass time activity and continue in the family occupation. Further the study also reveals that they have taken up such entrepreneurial venture to be economically independent and to improve the social status. The result also suggested that unfavourable market conditions and the stringent legal and regulatory conditions have been more challenging than the other problems. Finally the result shows that the women entrepreneurs have faced lot of personal challenges due to lack of information and imbalance between work and family life. Applications/Improvements: Thanjavur district has faced failures in the agricultural sector in the recent past due to failures in monsoon, water scarcity, etc. This has caused large scale unemployment and migration to urban industry creating huge quantum of socio, economic and cultural problems in the district. With mushrooming higher educational institutions in the district coupled with a high female literacy rate of 76.50 per cent (as per 2011 census), the researchers aim to concentrate on women entrepreneurship development, resulting in alternative sources of income for the district.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Employee Engagement is an important factor in the organization to achieve the success and increase its productivity. EE is the key variable that brings employee and the management closer. There are many factors that influence Employee Engagement along with demographic factors. The researchers have identified some of variables and were grouped into a factor as Individual factor. Objectives: To study the relationship between demographic variables of the respondents and Employee Engagement; To understand the variation between the individual factors and Employee Engagement of bank employees; To study the effect of individual factors on Employee Engagement; To study the relationship between Employee Engagement and discretionary efforts as outcome variable and to understand the effect of Employee Engagement and retention as outcome variable. Methods/Statistical Analysis: 124 samples have been taken for this study and the statistical tools such as chi-square test, ANOVA and Regression were used for analysis. Findings: There is positive relationship between the factors viz. organizational and group factors with Employee Engagement. These factors are to be taken care and more importance for better performance. In addition to that, more involvement of employees is required to have better productivity in the organization. Applications/Improvements: The current study analyzes the factors influencing the Employee Engagement of the employees from rural areas and the key findings of the study will help banking organisation in rural areas to formulate HR policies which in turn promotes their engagement level.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Thanjavur district- “the Rice bowl or Granary of Tamil Nadu” is one of the 32 districts of Tamil Nadu in South India and is well known for its domination in agriculture, architecture, music, arts and handicrafts. The author, a native of Thanjavur district, is of opinion that the district have not realized or understood its real potential to promote agro and rural tourism though it has many of the features required. Methods/Statistical Analysis: An exploratory cum descriptive study has been carried out by the author to identify the existing potentials for promoting agro cum rural tourism in the district. Details required for this study were collected from different sections of the society including Government Departments and experts through direct interviews, field visits, focussed group discussions and the findings were summarised and presented in the form of a case study. Findings: It is very clear that there is immense scope available as such to launch immediately the Agri cum Rural tourism in Thanjavur district. The district administration with the help of Govt. of Tamil Nadu and Govt. of India should take immediate steps to launch the project. Applications/Improvements: It is important for the government, society and the affected people to find out alternative methods of income to sustain their livelihood. Launching of “Agri and Rural Tourism” project in the district will benefit all sections of the society and the nation and hence this study assumes greater importance.
