The present work deals with pharmacognostic study on Solanum nigrum L. black and orange fruits. The two variants of Solanum nigrum are used in food as well as medicine one for the other. These two variants have distinctive features both in morphology and anatomy. The results showed important diagnostic characters and differences of fruits and seeds. This study provides scientific validation on anatomical features of fruits of two variants.

Background: People with addiction do not have control over their behavior, actions or usage. The causes of addiction differ considerably, and are seldom fully understood. They are caused in general by varying degrees of physical, mental, circumstantial and emotional factors. The researcher felt that there are various reasons that affect the well being of adolescents and some of them being, the objectives and the goals of the adolescent being smashed, Loss of Parental relationship, Disrupted interpersonal relationships, Fading Social and cultural values, subjection to unhealthy environment and so on. The aim of this study was to assess the level of social media app addiction among adolescents in selected Degree College in Kannur District, conducted in 2018. Methods: A descriptive survey approach was used for the study. The sample consisted of 100 adolescents between the age group of 18-21 years selected by convenient sampling technique. Data were collected by using a modified social media app addiction scale and were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics (chi-square test). Results: In order to facilitate the analysis and interpretation of the scope of the social media app addiction was graded into extremely addicted (3%), severely addicted (87%), moderately addicted (10%) and mild addicted (0%). The mean, median and standard deviation of adolescents’ social media app addiction scores were 95.77, 95 and 14.016 respectively. 44% expressed reduced interaction with family members, 48% pointed that they have physical problems and 51.4% expressed that their biological routine changed. Discussion : The study showed that the reason for frequent use of mobile phone is anxiety and fear about losing personal information and social relationship, and also the study revealed that these causes disturbance in the health and education of students.Keywords

A study to assess the level of knowledge and practice regarding diabetic foot care among diabetic patients at selected Hospital, Coimbatore. Convenient sample of 50 samples were selected for this study. Initially data collection was conducted to assess the knowledge and practice of diabetic patients regarding diabetic foot care was assessed by using questionnaire. Health education was given to sample using pamplet. Thus, structured educational programme can be implemented as an effective intervention in improving the knowledge and practice regarding diabetic foot care among diabetic patients.Keywords

Cardiospermum halicacabum is one of the most important medicinal plants of sapindaceae. The present work initiate comparative pharmacognostic study on Cardiospermum halicacabum L. var. microcarpum (Kunth) Blume and var. luridum (Blume) Adelb, through macroscopic and microscopic characters of seeds. Both the varieties of C. halicacabum are called by one vernacular name ‘Mudakkatran’. These two varieties have distinctive features both in morphology and anatomy. The two varieties of C. halicacabum are used medicinally one for the other. Most of the characters are similar but the variations occur in the leaves and seeds. The results of the present study showed diagnostic character and differences among the two varieties. Hence, plant anatomy is one of the alternative steps to differentiate the plant species.

A simple and rapid HPTLC analysis was developed for the quantitative determination of diosgenin and solasodine from hydroethanolic extract of Solanum nigrum L. The two variants of Solanum nigrum - black and orange fruits - are used in various parts of the world as food and medicine drastically. These two variants showed distinctive features in morphology and anatomy. To probe the phytoconstituent variation among these two variants, HPTLC analysis was done and the results of present HPTLC analysis showed important differences in peak values. So this study may provide scientific validation on spectral characteristics of two variants of Solanum nigrum L. with black and orange fruits.Keywords
