Breithauptite (NiSb), a rare antimonide, is generally found associated with hydrothermal vein ores of Ni and Co. In India, it has so far been recorded only from the gold-quartz veins of the Kolar Gold Field. Occurrence of this antimonide in a sediment-hosted milieu however, has seldom been noted. We report here the identification and characterization of this rare phase in both the stratiform and the vein-type ores of the sediment-hosted Zn-Pb sulphide deposits and prospects within the Dariba-Rajpura-Bethumni metallogenic belt in Northwestern India. Metamorphic remobilization from the stratiform ores of the belt has been postulated as a possible mechanism for the conspicuous segregation of breithauptite as a discrete phase within these ores.Keywords

Shillong Group comprises a thick meta-volcano-sedimentary sequence forming a part of Shillong Plateau and Mikir Hills. The litho variants of felsic meta-volcanics are characterized in detail based on their constituent material, textural variation, depositional feature and mode of eruption. Lava flows are characterized as porphyritic, spherulitic and aphyric type whereas pyroclastic deposits are classified as tuff breccia, lapilli tuff, tuffand ignimbrite. Fractured crystal and brecciated lithic fragments in tuff; fiamme and eutaxitic texture of ignimbrite suggest for subaerial eruption. The felsic meta-volcanics are rhyolitic to dacitic in composition and interbedded with tuffaceous phyllite, phyllite and quartzite.Keywords

The present study reports fayalite-bearing granite bodies from the Assam–Meghalaya Gneissic Complex of North East India. These are weakly peraluminous with high amounts of alkalis and meagre contents of magnesium, calcium, titanium and phosphorus. The chondrite normalized REE pattern is flat, having minor enrichment of HREE with negative europium anomaly suggesting their A-type character. The discrimination based on Rb, Y, Yb, Nb and Sc content indicates their generation due to melting of crustal components. Early crystallized fayalite and fluorite grains indicate that their emplacement in an extensional tectonic set-up most possibly represents the final stage of Rodinia Supercontinent amalgamationKeywords
