Abstract

The antimicrobial activity of different crude extract like petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, methanol, and aqueous of Hibiscus syriacus L. plants used in traditional Indian medicine was tested by well diffusion method against four bacterial pathogens: Bacillus cereus (MTCC-430), Staphylococcus epidermis (MTCC-435), Klebsiella pneumonia (MTCC-432), and Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 121) bacteria. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was determined for evaluating the potential leaves extract. The antibacterial activity of methanol extracts (0.5 g/ml) of Hibiscus syriacus L. showed maximum zone of inhibition (19.1 mm, 19.6 mm, 22.9 mm and 25.4 mm, respectively) against Bacillus cereus (MTCC-430), Staphylococcus epidermis (MTCC-435), Klebsiella pneumonia (MTCC-432), and Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 121) bacteria. MIC was tested at various concentrations from 0.625 mg/ml to 100 mg/ml for all the leaves extracts. The Klebsiella spp was the most resistant strain and various concentrations of all the leaves extract benzene extract showed less activity against the tested microorganism. The present screening result demonstrated that the methanol leaves extract of plants Hibiscus syriacus L. has potent antibacterial activity and the studied plants may be new source for novel antibacterial.

Abstract

The object of this study is to investigate the antioxidant potency of Hibiscus syriacus L. leaves extract with different solvent like petroleum ether, benzene, chloroform, methanol, and water. The phytochemical screening was identified the bioactive compounds in the extract. Methanolic extract of Hibiscus syriacus L. having higher amount of total phenolic contents compare to other extracts. As it is Methanolic extract of Hibiscus syriacus L. also having higher amount of total flavonoids contents compare to other extracts.of same plant leaves We assayed in vitro total antioxidant capacity of Hibiscus syriacus L. extract using ascorbic acid as references. Hibiscus syriacus L. extract have stronger antioxidant capacity on concentration dependent manner. Antioxidant activities of Hibiscus syriacus L. was very closed to the ascorbic acid. So, we can conclude that the in vitro study emphasized Hibiscus syriacus L. effective antioxidant and scavenging activities which may be due to its phenolics and flavonoids contents.

Abstract

Natural remedies are more acceptable in the belief that they are safer with fewer side effects than the synthetic ones. Herbal formulations have growing demand in the world market. The present work deals with the development&evaluation of the herbal hand wash containing ethanolic extract of liquorice ischolar_main (Glycyrrhiza glabra). Hand-washing is very important process in day to day life. Hands are major source through which microbial infections may occur thus proper hand was must be required using appropriate hand wash formulation. Herbs are known to have antimicrobial properties thus utilization of such herbs as antimicrobial agent is a common practice now. Present study involves formulation of herbal hand wash using extract of liquorice ischolar_main (Glycyrrhiza glabra). Disc diffusion method was utilized for evaluation of the antimicrobial activity against skin pathogens of the prepared herbal hand. Its efficacy was checked and compared with the standard commercial hand wash. Results revealed that extract of liquorice ischolar_main (Glycyrrhiza glabra) formulation was more efficient in reducing the number of organisms from hands based handwash with less or no side effects. Thus, owing to higher antimicrobial activity efficacy these herbal extract can be used in the preparation of herbal hand wash on commercial scale.

Abstract

Fast dissolving dosage forms have acquired great importance in pharmaceutical industry because of their unique properties like dissolve upon contact with a wet surface, such as the tongue, within a few seconds, meaning the consumer can take the product without need for additional liquid. This convenience provides both a marketing advantage and patient compliance. The present study aimed at preparing fast dissolving oral films of Promethazine Hydrochloride oral fast dissolving films that offers a suitable approach for the treatment and management of nausea and vomiting. In the present investigation different types of polymer like HPMC, HPC, polyvinyl pyrolidone, aspartame, poly vinyl alcohol to prepare quick films. The prepared films were evaluated for film thickness, folding endurance, surface pH, morphological properties, % drug content and content uniformity, tensile strength, percent elongation, in vitro disintegration time and in vitro dissolution studies. The physical appearance was found to be good and shows that films were transparent physical appearance was found to be good and shows that films were transparent with smooth surface without any scratches. The folding endurance was showed that films have good flexibility. In-vitro drug release for Promethazine of all the formulations showed 60-90% within four minutes.
