Abstract

Every person on earth dreams every night, however, he pays little attention to his dreams. People get frightened, receive contentment, and experience every emotion while dreaming. Throughout history people have sought meaning in dreams. Sigmund Freud explored dreams as a part of his research into the human psyche. He believed that dreams were the minds way of processing information, suppressed memories, thoughts and feelings that the conscious mind is not ready to accept. Dreams are far more than the images occurring involuntarily in mind during certain stages of sleep. Dream must serve a purpose. In the present research article an attempt has been made to gain an insight into dreams and their purposes. It is based on interviews of 192 visually impaired subjects. 93 males and 99females above 5 yr of age from National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun, were interviewed and their dreams and other relevant information were collected. The collected dreams were analysed and interpreted. On the basis of the interpretations the dreams were classified into six categories.

Abstract

This study is based on interviews of the 192 visually impaired subjects. 93 males and 99 females above Syr of age from National Institute for the Visually Handicapped, Dehradun, were interviewed and their dreams and other relevant information were collected. They were divided into two age group age group I i.e. under 12 yrs and age group II i.e. above 12 yrs. Considering the contents of the dream of the visually impaired their dreams were divided into 13 categories and then interpreted. Most of the dreams upon interpretation indicated a feeling of insecurity, fear and anxiety in their personality.

Abstract

Most psychologists define stress as the physiological and psychological response to a condition that threatens or challenges the individual and requires some form of adaptation or adjustment. An early, contribution to stress research was made by Cannon (1932), who described the fight-or-flight response. Cannon described that when any threat is perceived by an organism (animal or human), the sympathetic nervous system and the endocrine glands prepare the body to fight the threat or free from it. He also considered it potentially harmful in the long run, if an organism is not able to fight or free and experience prolonged stress and continuing physical arousal (Sapolsky, 1994).

Abstract

The aim of the present investigation was to study the use of defense mechanisms by type A and type B personalities. Sample consisted of 160 subjects. 80 subjects were those who had type-A behaviour pattern and 80 had type B behaviour pattern. Subjects were selected using type A/B behaviour pattern scale by Dhar and Jain. Defense Mechanism Inventory (DMI) by Mrinal and Mrinal was used to assess the use of defense mechanisms. Results revealed a significant different between Type A and Type B personalities in using different type of defense mechanisms. Results also showed a significant difference between males and females in using defense mechanism.

Abstract

Dyslexia is one of the most common forms of specific learning disorder which has also been called reading disorder. Dyslexia can hinders an individual's ability to read, write, spell and comprehend despite at least average intelligence, and adequate opportunity to learn. The causes of dyslexia are still not completely clear but are presumed to be due to a dysfunction of brain. Dyslexia is Usually diagnosed after kindergarten. The child with dyslexia is often considered as lazy, not paying heed to studies, and even low on intellectual level. This can impact child's self image, he can get frustrated, depressed and withdrawn from study and learning that requires language skills. There is no actual cure for dyslexia but it can be managed through multisensory and phonetic approaches. Hence, it is essential to plan remedial strategies and implement them in treating the child with dyslexia. The researcher adopted case study method for this purpose. The case presented in the study is of a female child of 7yr studying in 1st standard. The diagnosis was confirmed with administering dyslexia screening form, screening checklist for dyslexia and psychiatric diagnosis. The specific problems related to reading and writing skills of the selected case were assessed and remedial strategies were planned and implemented systematically. The remedial strategies were proved to be successful in improving her reading and writing skills.
