- Predictors of Job Satisfaction among Physiotherapy Professionals

Background: The aim of the study was to find out the best predictors of job satisfaction and to investigate the level of job satisfaction among physiotherapists.Method: A self-administrated questionnaire survey was conducted in December 2008. Data were collected from 196 physiotherapists in government and private health care settings, institutions located in northern regions of India. The response rate was 77.55%.
Results: 72 women (51.43%) and 68 men (48.57%) participated in the study. The percentage of satisfied physiotherapists was 56.4%. Logistic regression analysis showed that the most important predictors of job satisfaction were: (1) Salary (OR=3.694, 95% CI 2.340-5.832), (2) Interesting (OR=1.937, 95% CI 1.009-3.719), (3) Fulfilling (OR=1.679, 95% CI 0.009-2.835). Job satisfaction dimensions indicate that highest dissatisfaction levels occur in the area of salary and job security. The percentage of satisfaction ratings was higher in men (65.3%) than in women (47.1%). Post graduate professionals were found to be more satisfied (70.7%) as compared to their graduate counterparts.
Conclusion: This study concludes that salary, interest in work and fulfillment in job are important predictors of job satisfaction among physiotherapy professionals. The result shows that a total of 79 (56.4%) physiotherapists were globally satisfied with their job. The percentage of satisfaction ratings was higher in men (65.3%) than in women (47.1%).

The objective of the current study was to measure (1) the Grip strength of type2 diabetes mellitus patients and (2) to find correlation of grip strength with duration of diabetes. Co-relational study design. Total of 280 subjects who fulfills the inclusion criteria participated in the study, out of which 140 subjects are known cases of recent or old type2 diabetes mellitus and 140 cases are normal subjects. Grip strength of normal subjects as well as diabetic subjects suffering with type2 diabetes mellitus was measured for both left and right hand with the help of a hydraulic hand dynamometer by a standardized procedure. Values of grip strength in normal as well as diabetic subjects were compared for differences between left and right hand using related t test. Differences of grip strength between diabetics and normal subjects, between males and females subjects were seen using independent t test, also correlation of grip strength with the duration of diabetes was calculated using Pearson product moment correlation. The results of the study showed normal subjects having more grip strength than diabetics in both males as well as females; also female subjects are having less grip strength than male subjects in both normal and diabetic subjects. Results of the study also show that right hand has more grip strength than left hand in both normal subjects as well as in diabetics for both males and females. Further it was seen that a week negative correlation exists between grip strength and the duration of diabetes i.e. as the duration of diabetes increases grip strength decreases.Keywords

An observational study design was used for the study. A case-control type of observational study design was used. To find out the performance of single arm military press test (SAMP test) among the patient group with non-specific neck pain and healthy group of young females. The study was carried out on 60 females (mean age 22.93±2.25) selected from the campus of the Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, Haryana. The subjects were first screened for the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and then they were assigned into two groups: Group A-healthy females (n=30) and Group B female patients with nonspecific neck pain (n=30). The visual analog scale (VAS) score of maximum pain in last 24 h was noted before the inclusion of the patients in Group B. Patients with VAS more than 2 and <8 were included in Group B. The SAMP test was performed under supervision for both the groups. Data were analyzed using SPSS (21 version) and significance level was set at P≤0.01. No statistically significant difference was found in performance of SAMP test between the dominant hand and non-dominant hand of the normal group (t=0.008, P≤0.01). No statistically significant difference was found in performance of SAMP test between the dominant hand and non-dominant hand in Group B (t=0.0007, P≤0.01). However, statistically significant difference was found in performance of SAMP test for the dominant hand (t=4.24, P≤0.01) between Group A and Group B. Furthermore, statistically significant difference was found in performance of SAMP test for the non-dominant hand (t=1.2774, P≤0.01) between Group A and Group B on within group analysis (intra-group analysis). Performance of SAMP test was found to be better in healthy females when compared to nonspecific neck pain patients both for dominant and non-dominant hand. Thus, it was concluded that the SAMP test can be used as a performance-based measure to assess the upper limb disability among females with non-specific neck pain.Keywords
