Every Organization intends to have edge over its competitors in order to sustain and gain competitive advantage. Existing research suggests that service Organizations have paid strategic attention in aligning human resources to sub-serve this cause. Organizations find it extremely difficult to recruit, motivate, develop and retain competent manpower in fiercely Competitive environment these days. This research paper reviews how competitive advantage is developed using HR practices. Based on a case study of the State Bank of India from the employees' perspective, an attempt has been made to make generalization in this regard for emerging economy. The study uses primary data collected with the help of well structured questionnaire. Using Factor analysis, it identified five key factors as recruitment and reward system, training and skill development practices, organization climate, employee participation and empowerment; and effective communication system to determine competitive advantage in the banking industry in an emerging economy.Keywords

Work life balance is the most emerging issue now days. Increasing work pressures, globalization and technological advancement have created lot of imbalances in the life of both the gender, for all professionals working across all levels. Owing to this work pressure, maintaining a harmonious work-family life is becoming very difficult. This study analyzed the work life balance of working parents of educational sector and its impact on personal and professional lives of working parents. It further discussed that management should frame certain strategies which will help strike a balance in the personal and professional lives of the professionals.Keywords

Indian Private banking sector is growing at the swift rate thus contributing large to the GDP of the country. Banking system is the backbone of any economic ecosystem. In Indian banking sector count of private banks has increased much in recent times giving consumer more choices to switch in case they feel unsatisfied with the service quality, so it is more challenging to retain customers. In service industry HR management needs to revamp so as to sustain in the competitive and dynamic era as it has emerged as one of the key differentiator over the years to influence competitiveness of banks in India. In this era of knowledge based economy we have to realise the strategic role of human resources to gain competitive advantage. This paper attempts to analyse the contemporary level of HR System and Competitive Advantage in private banks of India and further, examines the relationship between the two and thus the effect of HRS on CA Status. Random sampling technique was used to collect data from 234 respondents of three leading private banks. The findings suggested that focusing on the HR functions and practices banks can survive in this competitive environment and can gain sustainable competitive advantage.Keywords
