The Garo-Rajmahal gap represents a physiographic gap in the outcrop continuity of Satpura strike due to alluvial cover between Garo and Rajmahal hills. The major part of this gap lies in Bangladesh. It is the junction of continental foredeep basin (Ganga valley) in the north and the Bengal basin in the south. A major drainage system of Ganga and Brahmaputra rivers flows through this narrow region from the Himalaya to the Bay of Bengal. Earlier, many differing views have been put forward regarding its origin. The present paper has brought out the origin and evolutionary stages of the gap on the basis of integrated analysis of geological and geophysical data of India and Bangladesh. A crustal model for the gap area is also presented. It has been concluded that the gap had its embryonic origin during Permo-Carboniferous (Lower Gondwana) period and evolved through the geological time to its present form.Keywords

In the present investigations a large array of plant species was evaluated for analysing their effect on the Trichogramma chilonis Ishii, for better understanding of the tritrophic interactions. The extracts of the eleven test plants were treated on the Corcyra eggs, which were suhsequently exposed to the adult females of T. chilonis for parasitisation and further observations, were made regarding per cent parasitisation and per cent emergence. Among the various plants tested, egg cards treated with the most commonly available fern in Tarai region Pteridium aquilinum resulted in maximum mean per cent parasitism 78, while maximum mean per cent emergence 85.33 was observed in the cards treated with Eucalyptus rostrata.Keywords

Objectives: To improve the accuracy of atmospheric visibility forecast over New Delhi for Republic Day ceremony, a statistical model is developed for fog (visibility < 1000 m) forecasting based on meteorological elements and mass concentration of Particulate Matter (PM). Methods/ Statistical Analysis: Mass distribution (μg/m3) from 0.3 to 20 μm of PM were measured simultaneously along with the meteorological elements in New Delhi during the month of January 2014 and 2015 to get an appreciation of their role in the atmospheric obscurity. The best possible multiple regression model for predicting visibility dependent on depression temperature, wind speed, thermal inversion and mass concentration of PM2.5 is developed using statistical software package Origin and MS office Excel. Findings: The average visibility during 0700 h to 1300 h on Republic Day is found to be 2000 m ± 1400 m. The daily mean concentrations of PM10 and PM2.5 during 22 to 27 January in the year 2014 and 2015 were found to be 1.23 to 5.20 times and 1.22 to 4.80 times higher than the daily Indian national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS). The correlation coefficient (r) and coefficient of determination (r2) values of 0.88 and 0.77 respectively suggest that visibility < 1000 m can be predicted satisfactorily using multiple regression model based on various meteorological elements and pollutants. Application/Improvement: This study will provide a better knowledge and guidance to aviation meteorologists and aviators on visibility pattern during Republic Day ceremony. It will also enhance the accuracy of visibility forecast and contribute towards flight safety.Keywords

Research Question: The menace of ignoring girls, peculiar in north and north-west regions, has now extended to entire country.
Material Methods: One hundred eleven children (Tribal 46 and Non Tribal 65) of both sexes belongs to zero to six years of age of a slum in Jagdalpur (BASTAR) tribal heart land of India were included in the study. Their weight for age was considered as an independent criterion for judging the status of girl child in comparisons to their male counter parts. Statistical Analysis: was expressed in terms of simple proportion and Chi - square test. Findings on comparison of age for weight in both tribal and non tribal community, an insignificant difference were noted for all age group of children.
Interpretation: This all indicate that community had been uncaring towards girl child.
Recommendations: (i) A new curriculum with objective of "mindset about gender perspectives must be changed" will have to be evolved for the school going children. (ii) Fees-free girl education (have knowledge be prosperous) i.e. voluntary payment of fee from primary to the highest degree level including technical education and be mandatory up to 14 years of age, without discrimination on account of caste, Religion, economic and social status etc. With special provision to the families comes under poverty line, for compensation as incentive for wages, the girl suppose to earn during her study period, must be made an integral and permanent part of all policies either proposed or going to be proposed for the progress and empowerment of the girls, (no amount is high enough to achieve the noble task of the progress and empowerment of the girls). (iii) As per trusteeship principle of the father of the nation "Mahatma Gandhi" the affluent class of the society, voluntary come forward to bear these expenses for this noble task.

The objectives of the Winter Fog Experiment (WIFEX) over the Indo-Gangetic Plains of India are to develop better now-casting and forecasting of winter fog on various time- and spatial scales. Maximum fog occurrence over northwest India is about 48 days (visibility <1000 m) per year, and it occurs mostly during the December-February time-period. The physical and chemical characteristics of fog, meteorological factors responsible for its genesis, sustenance, intensity and dissipation are poorly understood. Improved understanding on the above aspects is required to develop reliable forecasting models and observational techniques for accurate prediction of the fog events. Extensive sets of comprehensive ground-based instrumentation were deployed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi. Major in situ sensors were deployed to measure surface micro-meteorological conditions, radiation balance, turbulence, thermodynamical structure of the surface layer, fog droplet and aerosol microphysics, aerosol optical properties, and aerosol and fog water chemistry to describe the complete environmental conditions under which fog develops. In addition, Weather Forecasting Model coupled with chemistry is planned for fog prediction at a spatial resolution of 2 km. The present study provides an introductory overview of the winter fog field campaign with its unique instrumentation.Keywords
