- Antidiarrheal Activity of Methanolic Extracts of Seeds of Lepidium sativum

The objective of the present study is to investigate the antidiarrheal activity of the methanolic extract of Lepidium sativum (MELS). The preliminary phytochemical investigation was carried out to identify the various chemical constituents present in the extract. It was found that the MELS contain alkaloids, carbohydrates, glycosides, saponins, proteins, steroids, flavonoids, tannins and phenolic compounds. Acute toxicity studies revealed that the MELS was safe upto 2000mg/kg. The antidiarrheal activity was observed in three experimentally induced diarrhea models i.e. Castor oil induced diarrhea; Prostaglandin E2 (PG-E2) induced enteropooling in rats and charcoal meal test in mice. In castor oil induced model MELS (50, 100 and 200mg/kg.p.o.) showed significant dose dependent reduction of cumulative wet faecal mass. In PG-E2 induced enteropooling model, MELS (50, 100 and 200mg/ kg.p.o.) inhibited PG-E2 induced secretions. Similarly in charcoal meal test MELS (50, 100 and 200mg/kg.p.o.) decreased the movement of charcoal indicating its antimotility activity. It was observed that MELS possess significant anti-diarrheal activity.Keywords

Aluminium doped zinc oxide (Zn1-xAlxO) thin films were deposited by sol-gel spin coating technique onto a glass substrate (x=0-5wt%). The films were characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, SEM and were subjected to photoconductivity, temperature dependant conductivity and photo response measurements. The film with Al-1.5wt% showed the maximum absorption in UV and had a good optical transmission (~75%) in the visible regions respectively. The SEM images showed crack free films with little grain boundaries with decrease in grain size at higher aluminium concentration. The photoconductivity measurements reveal that there is a phenomenal increase in the photocurrent upon doping compared to undoped ZnO. The photocurrent reaches its maximum value (25μA) at 10V which is nearly 50 times more than the dark current (0.44μA) for Al-1.5wt% doped ZnO. The photocurrent then decreases for further increase in Al concentration. The photoresponse study gives the measure of rise and decay time. The rise time was found to be shorter for Al-1.5wt% among the doped film but longer than undoped ZnO. The temperature dependant conductivity shows that the thermal activation energy for the film decreases at Al-1.5wt% aluminium concentration and then increases for other concentrations in the temperature range 300-400K. The optimum conditions for maximum photoconductivity and photoresponse have been studied for photoconductive applications and the results presented.Keywords

The recent trend in photovoltaic inverter is to use topologies with the absence of transformers to acquire higher efficiency. This gives very low ground leakage current. After the elimination of transformer in a grid/Load connected Photovoltaic (PV) system, a galvanic connection exists between the grid/Load and the PV array. The acquisition of GNSS signal is the most challenging part of any GNSS receiver. With the modernized GNSS system having longer code length and wider bandwidth, the size of the data block becomes large. To reduce the computational load of the processor, the reduction in the size of the data block without compromise in the acquisition loop performance provides overall improvement to the system. Here, a model is developed for acquisition of GPS signal L1 and L2C by compressing the input raw GPS signal with sequences of perfect periodic autocorrelation properties such as the Ipatov sequence. A compression matrix of the required dimension is constructed for compressing the input GPS signal. The improvement in the acquisition performance of the model is discussed.Keywords

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the anxiolytic and a nti-convulsant activity of the alcoholic extract of heart wood of Cedrus deodara (ALCD). 50,100 and 200 mg/kg of alcoholic extract of Cedrus deodara (ALCD) were tested for its anxiolytic and anticonvulsant activity. Elevated plus maze model (EPM), Actophotometre, Light- dark model were used for testing anxiolytic activity and Pentylene tetrazole (PTZ) induc ed convulsions and Maximal electro shock (MES) induced convulsions models in mice were used for the assessment of its anticonvulsant activity, Pretreatment with ALCD and estimation of GABA in rat brain tissues also performed to study the effect of ALCD (30, 100 mg/kg) on GABA levels of brain. In Actophotometre test, higher doses (100 and 200mg/kg) of ALCD has show ed significant CNS depression by reducing locomotor activity in mice. In EPM the 100 and 200mg/kg of ALCD has increased the time spent in the open arm and decreased tim e spent in the closed arm. In Light-dark model the 100 and 200mg/kg of ALCD has showed significant inc rease in the time spent in light zone when compare to the dark zone. In PTZ induced convulsions model 100 and 200 mg/kg of ALCD has increased the onset of clonus and tonic seizures.
In MES induced convulsions model 100 and 200 mg/kg of ALCD has decreased duration of tonic extensor phase and also at 100 and 200 mg/kg doses the AL CD has increased the percentage protection in PTZ and MES induced convulsions. The ALC D (30 and 100 mg/kg) also showed significant modulation of GABA levels of cereb ellum and whole brain other than cerebellum. In conclusion these observations suggest tha t 100 and 200 mg/kg doses of ALCD are having good anxiolytic and anticonvulsant activity.

This paper presents a novel approach in face digital image searching and matching. The given key image is converted into gray scale image and after that a matrix is computed with gray scale values of the key image. Then we are collecting the diagonal key elements for diagonal searching key sequence. Using Pair wise sequence alignment we are trying to match the key with available images in the large data base of collection of faces. Initially we discussed various techniques used in digital image searching and matching in this paper. This new algorithm Diagonal matrix is a new algorithm for all face images searching and matching. Face recognition is very essential in the field of criminology. Face Image searching and matching are very difficult task in image processing; there are several algorithms for face image matching. But still needs more optimization for image matching. Using this new approach we can match criminal photo from a large database. Face Image recognition, feature extraction and pattern matching needs improvements in Image processing. There are several methods for Face image searching and matching, but we need new optimized technique for image searching and matching. The present article investigates the dry sliding wear behavior of Aluminium 6061 hybrid metal matrix composite (ALHMMC) and compare the results with cast iron(ci). The (ALHMMC) possess light weight, low corrosion and high strength which offer unique property, which can use in automobile brakes. The main objective of this work to investigate the sliding wear behavior of al6061 composites reinforce mos2 particles and to optimize the process parameters in braking applications. the composite were prepared by using stir casting technique and optimization were done by using taguchi technique. The optimal combinations input parameters which will positively influence the wear rate and coefficient of friction. Dry sliding wear test method was used to conduct the experiments by using pin-on-disc wear testing machine. design of experiment was selected for analysis of the data. Investigation about applied load, sliding speed, sliding distance on wear rate and coefficient of friction during wearing process was carried out using ANOVA. results show that applied load has the highest influence followed by sliding distance and sliding velocity.Keywords

The need for finding renewable sources of energy together with the necessity of searching for new technologies to reduce the negative impact of waste accumulation has led to the possibility of using biomass as an alternate fuel, especially in electric utilities. Most of the industrial sources of pollution come from coal-fired power plants, which necessitate the need to find ways to decrease the Greenhouse gas emissions from these. Also, the ratification of the Kyoto Protocol and the tightening environmental regulations means that by the year 2008, countries would need to implement measures to meet these standards. One of the options that need to be considered is the application of cofiring technologies to coal fired power plants. In this paper, we seek to review the various cofiring technologies available and also at the methods by which these standards could be met.Keywords
