Abstract
Heart disease is the predominant cause of disability and death in all industrialized nations. Coronary heart disease which includes hypertensive and pulmonary hypertensive disease, congenital and vascular heart disease and vascular diseases; account for about 85 to 90 percent of cardiac deaths. Of the 10 million Indians who die each year, one million do so because of heart disease especially myocardial infarction.
