Abstract
Age at menarche is an important indicator of physiological development in females and as such it has been studied extensively in many communities. Reported studies thus indicate that with decreasing social class, menarcheal age increases. But menarche is the end result of the sequence of events that preceed its onset viz., attainment of peak height velocity (PHV) and peak weight velocity (PWV).
