Abstract

Pseudomonas fluorescens isolate (1-12) were collected from the rhizosphere soil and tested for their efficacy against Rhizoctonia solani causing sheath blight of rice and Pythium sp, causing damping-off of chilli. Among the 12 isolates, P. fluorescens 3 and 4 were very effective in inhibiting the mycelial growth of R. solani and Pythium sp. All the 12 isolates of P. fluorescens were tested for (he production of siderophore, salicylic acid and HCN. The isolates of P. fluorescens 3 and 4 alone showed higher production of siderophore, salicylic acid and hydrogen cyanide

Abstract

A pot culture experiment was conducted to find out the efficacy of antagonists in the control of damping-off disease of tomato caused by Pythium indicum Balakrishnan. Soil inoculation with Trichoderma viride Pers., T. harzianum Rifai, and Laetisaria arvalis Burdsall, gave good control of the pathogen and the treated pots recorded 78.2, 70.9 and 72.2 per cent seed germination respectively as against 19.3 per cent in the control. Seed treatment with T. viride, T. harzian um and L. arvails was also found to be equally good. The results obtained were comparable to soil drenching with fungicides like fenaminosu1f, copper oxychloride and seed treatment with captan or thiram. However, improved seedling vigour was noticed in the treatments with antagonists than with fungicides.

Abstract

This paper proposes a new innovative algorithm is called Visual assessment of cluster tendency, uses a visual approach to find the number of clusters in data. The Visual Assessment of (cluster) Tendency (VAT) method readily displays cluster tendency for small data sets as grayscale images, but is too computationally costly for larger data sets. We first study an important visual methods have been widely studied and used in data cluster analysis. The basis of the method is to regard D as a subset of known values that is part of a larger, unknown N×N dissimilarity matrix, and then impute the missing values from D. The VAT algorithm generally represent D as an N×N Image I(̅D) where the objects are reordered to reveal hidden cluster structure along the diagonal of the image. This paper addresses the limitation by proposing a VAT algorithm, where D is mapped ̅D in a graph embedding space and then reordered to ̅D using VAT algorithm. Two important points: i) because VAT is scalable by sVAT to data sets of arbitrary size, and because coVAT depends explicitly on VAT, this new approach is immediately scalable to say, the sVAT model, which works for even very large(unloadable) data sets without alteration; and ii) VAT, sVAT and coVAT are autonomous, parameter free models-no “hidden values” are needed to make them work. A sampling-based extended scheme is also proposed to enable visual cluster analysis for large data sets.Extensive experimental results on several synthetic and real-world data sets validate our VAT algorithms.

Abstract

There is a gap between the training given in Engineering Institutions and what the Engineering Industries look for in a prospective graduate engineer. Both the industries and institutions are taking steps to reduce the gap. This paper puts forth a suggestion for industry-institution interaction through undergraduate projects. The proposal is for building up of a pool of industrial problems at Departmental, Institutional and Regional level which can be taken up as undergraduate projects. Representatives of concerned industry can also be involved in student vivavoce/Seminar.
