Thunder events are common during pre-monsoon season (March -May). In this paper thunder events of Delhi and Guwahati for the month of May and April have been analysed with Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) derived precipitable water vapour and Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) derived Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) at 550 nm data. It is observed that GNSS derived precipitable water vapour have the potential to nowcast or characterize the mesoscale event. In all cases the AOD and Integrated Precepitable Water Vapour (IPWV) increases before the thunder event which accompanied with duststorm and consequently increase the aerosol loading in the atmosphere. The rate of increase of IPWV (d/dt(IPWVdt)) is observed approximately 3-4 mm /hour during the convective initiation and relative increase of AOD is 150-300 %. The various thermodynamic parameters of radiosounding to understand better the thunder activity are also highlighted in the paper.Keywords

DbIndAlgae is a free on-line database of marine algae from India. It provides information about the geographical distribution, morphological characteristics and most importantly, sequence data of marine algae collected from different coasts. It is the only database which contains molecular data of the algal species from India. Identification of the species is based on both morphological as well as molecular information. The database also serves as an interface to the herbarium maintained at the Centre for Plant Sciences, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. So far the database lists 45 marine algal species. Some algal species have been identified for the first time from India, but have already been reported from places other than India, whereas new species are those which have been identified by us for the first time as a part of this study and have never been reported elsewhere.Keywords

Avian diversity around Chilli, the historical lake of district Fatehabad, Haryana, India, has been studied for a period of one year. It is situated along the historical fort of Mogul Emperor, Firoz Shah Tughlak for providing the security to the fort from three sides. Once a place for recreation, its existence is in danger now, due to dumping of sewage water and garbage from whole of the town which is affecting the biodiversity severely. To record the avian diversity, periodic weekly visits were conducted in the morning and later in the evening using line transect method and point count method. A total of 21 species of wetland birds belonging to 6 orders and 9 families have been recorded during the study period. Maximum values of Shannon-Weiner index (2.76) and Simpson’s diversity index (0.85) were recorded in the month of December while Margalef index value was highest (3.63) in the month of January. Minimum values of Shannon-Weiner index (1.63), Simpson’s diversity index (0.49) and Margalef richness index (1.39) were recorded in the month of July. As no previous record of research studies on wetland avian faunal diversity of Chilli lake was found, so the present study was planned to fulfill the lacuna of research on different aspects of avian fauna as well as major threats to them due to anthropogenic activities in the study area.

India had always been known as the land that portrayed cultural and traditional vibrancy through its conventional arts and crafts. Folk art in India apparently has a great potential in the international market because of its traditional aesthetic sensibility and authenticity. Madhubani painting is the one of those folk art forms known for its beauty and elegance. Thirty designs developed using traditional Madhubani motifs were arranged on stoles in different styles and five colour ways for each selected placement were prepared. Five stoles were developed through screen printing and hand embroidery using selected design placements and colour ways. The prepared stoles were assessed by a panel of30 consumers on different assessment parameters, viz., motifs, designs, placements and colour ways for their potential marketability. The average weighted mean score of all the developed stoles ranged from 2.49 to 2.58 indicated that all the developed stoles were very enthralling and accepted by consumers on different assessment parameters. The cost of the stoles ranged from Rs 1300/- to 1450/- which was rated appropriate by all the consumers. Thus, the effort provided an imaginative and fresh collection to the consumers who want to adopt their tradition with minute modernization. Also this would help in the preservation of painting tradition as well as broaden the marketability of the designed products.Keywords

Early detection of neonatal illness is an important step towards improving newborn survival. Neonates and young infants often present with non-specific symptoms and signs that indicate severe illness. These signs might be present at or after delivery or in a newborn presenting to hospital or develop during hospital stay.3 Objectives of the study were to assess awareness of mothers regarding neonatal danger signs and to develop an information booklet. A descriptive research design was adopted for the study. Data was collected from a total of 147 mothers at district hospital, Udhampur, J&K. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data. The tool used for data collection was checklist to assess knowledge regarding neonatal danger signs. The data collected was analyzed by using descriptive statistics. Result revealed that majority (56.4%) of the mothers are in the age group of 21-25 years have no formal education (58.5%). Most of the mothers (72.7%) are housewife and (52.3%) had 2 children in the family. Majority of the mothers (96.5%) are from Hindu religion. Most of the mothers (65.3%) had source of information as Family/ Friends. Researcher found that majority of the mothers (61.9%) have poor knowledge and only 38.1 % of mothers have good knowledge regarding neonatal danger signs. The overall mean of the knowledge of mothers regarding neonatal danger signs is 3.65±1.46. At 5% of level of significance, selected demographic variables i.e., mother’s age, education, Occupation, no. of children and source of information were found significantly associated with the knowledge of mothers regarding neonatal danger signs. The researcher concluded that majority of the post natal mothers are not aware of neonatal danger signs and required to get knowledge regarding same. All of the participants were provided with information booklet to make them aware of neonatal danger signs.Keywords
