The study was conducted to assess the knowledge level of potato growers in Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh. The productivity level of potato is observed to be low in Madhya Pradesh due to various reasons among these are climate and adoptability of technologies. Potato production has played a vital role in increasing vegetable production of the country with 25.6 per cent share in total vegetable production during 2002-03. The contribution of the country in world potato pool has increased from 6.4 per cent to 7.8 per cent during last decade. Potato utilization has become more diverse with processed products commanding a large share of the potato market. Majority of the potato growers had complete knowledge about improve varieties. The data also indicated that majority of the potato growers were aware about recommended spacing (59.17%), disease management (56.67%) and selection of field (52.5%).Keywords

The sustainability of dry land area is widely endangered due to over exploitation of natural resources beyond their carrying capacity. Integrated management of natural resources namely land, water, vegetation, animal and environment on watershed basis has emerged as a logical and the most effective holistic approach for sustainable production and overall development of such areas. Watershed development provides an opportunity for optimum utilization of land and water resources and increasing the crop productivity. The present investigation was carried out in Rewa district of M.P. The Participating farmers of integrated watershed management programme running since the year 2009-10 were selected for the purpose of present research work through proportionate random sampling method to make a sample of 120 respondents. The major constraints experienced by the respondents on the basis of rank order as, difficult to mobilize people, uneven distribution of activities, demand for big bunds, lack of awareness about IWMP, low participation of people, low knowledge about natural resources and its management, people lack interest in committee, by laws and acts not acceptable to all, lack of flexibility, cast and political involvement and more lengthy procedure.Keywords

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a pest management system that in the context of the associated environment and the population dynamics of the pest species, utilizes all suitable techniques and methods in as compatible manner as possible and maintain the pest population at level below these causing economic injury. This approach has been globally accepted for achieving sustainability in agriculture and maintaining the agro-eco-system. Cotton being a major commercial crop of the Nimar region in Madhya Pradesh and keeping in view the importance of IPM to manage the insects and pests of cotton crop, the present study was carried out to assess the present status of adoption of IPM practices by cotton growers in Barwani district of Nimar region. The multistage sampling technique was employed to select 140 respondents from seven blocks of the district for present study. The perusal of data indicated that the majority of respondents adopted recommended chemical control measure (95.33%). The great majority of the farmers are using chemicals to protect their cotton crop along with other cultural practices like grazing by sheep and goat in cotton field after last picking (79.16%), use of certified seed (85.66%) and use of recommended dose of fertilizers (66.33%). The findings also indicated that the majority of cotton growers faced problems that inadequacy of labours and high wage rate for undertaking the manual work like handpicking (87.85%), adoption of biological control measures and mechanical control (82.14%). The lack of knowledge about yellow sticky traps for control of white fly (74.28%), lack of knowledge about use of pheromone trap (82.14%), lack of knowledge about intercropping of cotton with cowpea/maize/lady finger as trap crop (73.57%), lack of knowledge about use of bio-agent (58.57%) and lack of knowledge about procedure of preparing extract of neem seed kernel (52.14%) were the major constraints in adoption of IPM programme.Keywords

The development of India depends on agriculture and it engages about 70 per cent of its population directly or indirectly. It contributes nearly 37 per cent of the net national product and account for a sizable share of total value of the country’s export. The area under vegetable crops in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh was about 33.77 thousand hectares in 2011-12, which increased to 6.23 thousand hectares in 2012-13. The production of vegetable crops in Indore district was about 5993.07 thousand tonne in 2011-12 and further increased to 6290.60 thousand tonne in 2012-13 (Source-State Department of Horticulture, Indore M.P.). The present rate of agriculture production could be doubled if the available technology is appropriately transferred to the farmers for its adoption. It is, however, reported that not more than 30 to 40 per cent of the technologies have gone to the farming communities so far, even though there is strong network of extension mechanism operating for accelerating agriculture production. The investigation was undertaken during the year 2008-09 and 2012-13 in purposively selected Indore block of Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. The profile of the vegetable growers was measured on a number of characteristics such as their age, education, annual income, occupation, social participation, socio-economic status, mass media exposure, extension participation and information seeking behaviour. The dependent variables studied were extent of adoption of eco-friendly management practices. Regarding the higher percentage of the respondents (61.25%) had medium adoption of eco-friendly management practices in 2008-09 whereas higher percentage of the respondents (56.25%) had low adoption of eco-friendly management practices in 2012-13.Keywords
