Herbal medicine is having very old history. Plants are the typical manufacturers of complex drug molecules, which serve as a prototype to develop more effective and less toxic medicines. Helminth infections are distressing huge population in the world. These infections are contributing to the disorders like pneumonia, anaemia, eosinophilia and under nourishment. Anthelmintics are the drugs which expels the parasitic worms from the gastrointestinal tract by either paralyzing or killing the worms. So, there is a need of investigation of new anthelmintic molecules. Eichhornia crassipes belongs to the family Pontederiaceae, commonly known as "Water hyacinth" is selected as test drug based on ethno-botanical survey conducted in East Godavari Dist., Andhra Pradesh. In present study evaluation of anthelmintic activity of ischolar_main extracts was done by using adult Indian earth worm Pheritima posthuma. The above activity was carried out using the petroleum ether, ethanol extracts of different concentrations using piperazine citrate positive control and normal saline as negative control. Overall anthelmintic activity revealed that concentration dependent nature of extracts. The extract shows potent and significant anthelmintic activity as compared to the standards and it was investigated to be used as effective anthelmintic drug.Keywords

Currently available anthelmintic drugs require improved management, high cost and also worms developing resistance to these drugs. So, there is a need of investigation of new anthelmintic molecules. Glycosmis mauritiana (Rutaceae) and Pedalium murex (Pedaliceae) are selected as test drugs based on ethno-botanical survey conducted in East Godavari Dist., Andhra Pradesh. The ischolar_mains of each plant were extracted with petroleum ether and ethanol. The anthelmintic activity of these extracts was screened by taking Indian earthworm (Pheretima posthuma) as a test organism and albendazole and piperazine citrate were used as reference standards. All the extracts show significant anthelmintic activity. The ethanolic extract of Glycosmis mauritiana shows more activity comparing to the other extracts. Overall anthelmintic activity revealed that concentration dependent nature of extracts. The extract shows potent and significant anthelmintic activity as compared to the standards and it was investigated to be used as effective anthelmintic drug.Keywords

Objective: Crataeva magna is a potent medicinal plant in the Indian system of medicine. The objective of the present work was to study the antilithic activity of plant Crataeva magna (Lour.) DC belonging to family Capparaceae.
Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out to evaluate Antilithiatic activity in rats using 0.75% ethylene glycol in drinking water were given orally for 28 days. The plant Crataeva magna is used in analgesic, anti protozoal, hypoglycemic, anti inflammatory, hypotensive, anti spasmodic purposes. The aqueous extract of leaves of Crataeva magna results maximum yield value than that of petroleum ether extract, chloroform extract and alcohol extract through successive maceration process. The aqueous extract of leaves of Crataeva magna showed maximum control of lithiasis in Wister rats. Urinary risk factors of urolithiasis were monitored at the end of 7th , 14th , 21st , and 28th days. Urinary volume was increased in lithiatic as well as drug-treated rats. Increased urinary excretion of Calcium, Oxalate, Uric acid, Phosphorus and Protein in lithiatic rats was brought down significantly by the administration of Crataeva magna. Decreased magnesium excretion in hyperoxaluric rats was normalized with respect to calcium oxalate and other crystallizing salts such as uric acid, which may induce epitaxial deposition of calcium oxalate. Simultaneous treatment with the extract reduced Calcium and Oxalate ion concentration in Urine confirming the stone inhibitory effect.
Result: In Ethylene glycol induced lithiasis, the lithiasis was significantly reduced and the stone formation was normalized by administration of 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg dose orally and the property was comparable to the standard drug.
Conclusion: This study has established the antilithiatic activity of Crataeva magna and thus, justifies the folkloric and ethnomedical uses of this plant for lithiasis.

The methanolic extract of stem bark of Butea monosperma Lam (MEBM) was studied for the hepatoprotective and antipyretic activities. Carbontetrachloride (1ml/kg, i.p) induced hepatotoxicity and Brewer's yeast (10ml/kg, s.c) induced pyrexia rat models were used. The 10 days treatment of MEBM (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg, p.o) showed significant (P<0.01) hepatoprotective effect by dose dependent manner. The MEBM significantly (P<0.01) lowered the elevated levels of serum biochemical parameters such as SGOT, SGPT, ALP, total bilirubin and also significantly (P<0.01) increased total protein levels when compared to toxic control rats. The MEBM at both dose levels (200 mg/kg and 400mg/kg, p.o) produced significant (P<0.01) antipyretic activity throughout the observation period up to 6 h. The phytochemical analysis showed the presence of biologically active constituents such as flavonoids, glycosides and sterols. The flavonoids in the MEBM may be responsible for the significant hepatoprotective and antipyretic activities.Keywords

A large portion of crop residues burnt in farming fields due to non-availability of labour and high cost of residue removal. Burning of crop residues causes environmental pollution as well as increase the loss of plant nutrients. Therefore, appropriate management of crop residues assumes a great significance. Shredders are widely used for shredding the crop residues into small pieces and their performance study is an important factor for wide scale adoption. The field experiments were carried out to evaluate the performance of shredders and estimate the operational cost. The performance of shredders in terms of field efficiency, shredding efficiency was investigated with respect to change in forward speed of operation viz., 2, 3 an 5 km h-1 and blade types viz., straight blade and flail blade with selected shredders. The experimental results revealed that increasing shredding efficiency by decreasing in forward speed of operation from 5 to 2 km h-1 with optimum peripheral velocity of rotary and flail shredders.Keywords
