Abstract

Students are young and their behavior can reflect the health status of the society they are going to live in the coming years. Lifestyle reflects social values, attitudes and activities of a person. Personal health is a function of lifestyle and behavior, which can be altered through medical device. The unhealthy lifestyle, common in modern societies, accounts for a high number of mortalities secondary to preventable diseases. The aim of the current study was to explore the students’ lifestyle in order to formulate policies and educational and behavioral programs to promote their overall wellbeing. Data were collected by mailed questionnaires in 2011 Jan–March from a Local sample of Bhilai City, State-Chhattisgarh having age group of , 18-21 years old. In this, only the 18 year old & above considered, however, there are no means to assess representativeness according to college performance. It has been found that in health-related surveys the response rate is lower in young boy than in young girl, and that reluctance to respond is associated with negative health behavior and poor college performance. If active responding were selective in that direction also here, the associations found would be weak as compared to the situation where everyone would have responded. We have found that addiction of pan was more in college A as compared to college B, C, and D and also B+ blood group of college A was more as compared to college B,C and D. Disease history of cancer in college C was more as compared to college A and B.

Abstract

Drug addiction is a therapeutic condition, a chronic relapsing disease. As in other domains of experimental medicine, appropriate experimental investigations are needed in order to better understand the disease. People with an addiction do not have control over what they are doing, taking or using. Their addiction may reach a point at which it is harmful. Addictions do not only include physical things we consume, such as drugs or alcohol, but may include virtually anything, such abstract things as gambling to seemingly harmless products, such as chocolate - in other words, addiction may refer to a substance dependence (e.g. drug addiction) or behavioural addiction (e.g. gambling addiction).However, to understand the diverse facets of drug effects and of the underlying pathophysiology it is necessary to keep in mind the complexity of the psychopathological processes. The main symptoms that characterize addiction correspond to expressions of dysfunctions within specific circuits and regions. Pathways to addiction are numerous and comorbidity and in the real world poly-drug use are common.The study show that so many molecules and formulations are present in the market that used as drug addiction like codein phasphte syrup, alprazolam tablet, pentazocine injection, combination of gandapuro tel and turpine tel ointment, lorazepam tablet, pheniramine maleate, nitrazepam tablet.

Abstract

An approach for estimating groundwater potential in Luni block of Jodhpur district by isopach maps that were prepared based on electrical resistivity method are highlighted in this paper. Groundwater potential and quality of different aquifers are estimated based on the depth to bed rock, thickness of saturated zone and aquifer resistivity drop ratio. The total groundwater potential of suitable quality is estimated to be around 49 mem. The isopach maps prepared based on electrical resistivity survey to estimate the thickness of saturated zone are found fairly compatible with the ground conditions.

Abstract

This article describes a facile one-pot synthesis of bio-diesel from non-treated Jatropha oil (J oil) with high acid value (ca. 17 mg KOH/g). Choline hydroxide exhibited superior catalytic activity than choline im-idazole in the transesterification that yields 95 ± 1% of biodiesel, when the reaction was carried out with 9 : 1 molar ratio of methanol to J oil and 4 wt% catalysts at 60°C for 4 h. Further study showed that the catalyst exhibited almost constant activity for four successive trials after being recycled. The main fuel properties of the final product meets the ASTM standards. Moreo-ver, the properties of biodiesel are identical to those obtained by conventional method (US 7,666,234 B2) and can be used as fuel in the existing diesel engines without any modification.

Abstract

Herbal cosmetics are formulated, using different cosmetic ingredients to form the base in which one or more herbal ingredients are used to cure various skin ailments. The name itself suggests that herbal cosmetics are natural and free from all the harmful synthetic chemicals which otherwise may prove to be toxic to the skin. Compared to other beauty products, natural cosmetics are safe to use. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic-pharmaceutical hybrid products intended to improve the health and beauty of the skin by providing a specific result, ranging from acne-control and anti-wrinkle effects, to sun protection. Calamine lotion is widely used as an antiseptic and protective for its cooling and soothing effect in various skin disorders. Instead of traditional synthetic products different plant parts and plant extracts are used in this study to procure calamine lotion having natural humectants, e.g. aloe-vera gel and honey. Herbal cosmetics are the preparations used to enhance the human appearance. The purpose of this study is to compare the semi synthetic activity of glycerin with other humectants in terms of their emollient properties to ensure whether calamine lotion can be formulated using natural humectants or not.

Abstract

Our skin is our body's largest organ and barrier from the outside world. When our skin is constantly exposed to pollutants and UV damaging rays over an extended period of time, it becomes more vulnerable to free radical damage. Excessive free radical exposure through a toxic diet and environmental pollutants harm the skin by damaging DNA and cell membranes that keep the skin plump and firm. As we all know, some of our illnesses are caused by having insufficient nutrients in our body. These illnesses are just the symptoms to show us that we may be lacking in some nutrients. If we replenish these nutrients in time, the symptoms usually disappearWith over 100 nutrients, Spirulina is often described as the most complete food source in the world. The American National Aeronautical and Space Agency includes it in their astronauts diet and plans to grow Spirulina in it's space station.Japan has some good examples of some Japanese seniors who have only relied on Spirulina and water for more than 20 years showing how good is Spirulina for the human body. Spirulina is effective in treating dark circles dry eye symptoms,detoxifies skin,dandruff,aging skin,rinkle and hair fall.

Abstract

This review article compiled information on an profusion of herbal medicinal plants and home remedies used to treat conjunctivitis, an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eye, commonly referred to as "pinkeye." Epidemics of conjunctivitis have occurred throughout the India, prompting the use of indigenous herbal cures for centuries. While usually not a very severe disease, conjunctivitis is painful and can sometimes lead to fractional or complete blindness due to corneal involvement. Symptoms include redness and swelling of the eyes, itching and increased tearing, and photophobia. Allergic and chronic noninfectious conjunctivitis can be treated by sodium cromoglycate and antihistamines. Bacterial, fungal, or viral infection is extremely contagious, and has caused epidemics in India as well as Asian and African countries. Common pathogens include Staphylococcus aureus, Chlamidia trachomatis, adenoviruses, Enterovirus 770 (EV 70), and Coxsackie virus. This study shows that so many herbals are available to treat conjunctivities like liquorice, honey, fennel, redclover, pokeischolar_main, turmeric, marigold etc.

Abstract

Kusum or Sagade (Schleichera oleosa) is well known tree of medicinal importance in India. All parts of Kusum are used in Indian Traditional Healing. The Traditional Healers use Kusum in simple as well as complex herbal formulations. Kusum based Herbal Formulations are popular among the Healers of present generation but it is really surprising that very few Kusum based Formulations are available in Global Drug Market as promising products. Schleichera trijuga Wild), is a tropical plant prevalent in Orissa and other parts of India (foliage: deciduous, and semi evergreen). That is locally called as "Kusum" (Hindi) and "Kusuma" (Oriya). It belongs to Family "Sapindaceae". Fruiting season is usually in the monsoon. Fruits are simple, fleshy and of 'Berry' category which is either one seeded or two seeded Kusum oil' is a novel substance that has been used by tribal people for their disease like, cold, itch, ulcer for both human and cattle. It was confirmed after the discussion with native inhabitants in the area where the "Kusum' fruits were collected. Studies have also described the medicinal use of the 'Kusum Oil' which is traditionally used for the cure of itch, acne, burns, other skin troubles, rheumatism (external massage), hair dressing and promoting hair growth. Powdered seeds of Schleichera trijuga are used for ulcers and wounds of cattle to remove maggots and bark is used for skin imflammations and ulcers. The chemical composition of Schleichera trijuga seeds has been investigated by column chromatographic, ultraviolet and infrared spectrophotometrie methods. Schleichera oleosa, belonging to the Sapindaceae family, has been reported to possess antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer activity, and can be used for the production of biodiesel. The plant contains low tannin levels therefore it can be used as fodder for livestock. This species contains important phytochemicals such as terpenoids, betulin, betulinic acid etc. The literature reveals that this medicinal plant can be used as an alternative to synthetic compounds for use in preventing and treating several diseases. Considering the medicinal and environmental uses of this plant, this review is an effort to summarize nearly all the information reported on its various activities.

Abstract

Peptic ulcer disease is an imbalance between offensive and defensive gastric factors. This is a major cause of mortality in developing countries. This has attracted several scientists foe their research contributions to this area. Peptic ulcer disease is a serious gastrointestinal disorder that requires a well targeted therapeutic strategy. A number of drugs including proton pump inhibitors and H2 receptor antagonists are available for the treatment of peptic ulcer, but clinical evaluation of these drugs has shown incidence of relapses, side effects and drug interactions. This has been the rational for the development of new antiulcer drugs and the novel formulations that extend to herbal drugs. Good scientific confirmation of traditional knowledge of drugs for treatment of various disorders has made herbal approach a scientific budding area of interest now days. This review article includes physiological aspects of peptic ulcer disease and list of herbal drugs which are used in the treatment of peptic ulcer. Here we have highlighted some of the important plants reported for their anti-ulcer and ulcer healing properties. Ayurvedic knowledge supported by modern science is necessary to isolate, characterise, and standardise the active constituents from herbal sources for antiulcer activity.

Abstract

Medicinal plants are part and parcel of human society to combat diseases, from the dawn of civilization. Information about the benefits of herbal drugs is known in our ancient literature of Ayurvedic, Siddha, Unani and Chinese medicine. According to the WHO, 2003 about 80 % of the population of developing countries being unable to afford pharmaceutical drugs relies on traditional medicines, mainly plant based, to sustain their primary health care needs. The consequences of this long neglect of developing acceptable and reliable male contraceptives in poor developing countries has been lack of or less participation of males in family planning. Recently, it has come apparent that neglecting men in matters of family planning is a losing strategy with adverse consequences for both men and women Ayurvedic literature and folk medicine have been screened and searched thoroughly for antifertility effects in males all over the world. The World Health Organization has set up a task force on plant research for fertility regulation with an objective to find new orally active non steroidal contraceptive. Therefore, this article reviewed some of the medicinal plants having antifertility or contraceptive activity. This review will highlight some of the herbs which could potentially be developed into a reversible male contraceptive as well as discuss difficulties of developing such a contraceptive.

Abstract

Dementia is a progressive neurological disease of the brain. It demolishes the vital brain cells, indicating on observable decline in mental abilities. Dementia is not an acute condition that suddenly appears, and it usually does not require emergency treatment, but it can some time develop suddenly like in case of severe injury, disease or toxin destroys brain cells or it can develop slowly, especially in senior citizens and it is more common with women than the men. There are 3.7 million Indian suffer from dementia (2.1 million women and 1.5 million men). Degradation on proper level of acetylcholine (ACh) due to the excessive AChE activity produce to constant Ach deficiency leads to memory and cognitive impairments. The herbal medicine numerous plants have been used to treat age related cognitive, now a days herbal medicine is popular in all over the world. The herbal medicine like with aniasomnifera, centellaasiatica, bacopamonieri, prunusamygdalusa etc, which having property to improve memory and lesson age related cognitive deficits, have advantage over on the therapeutic agent like currently prescribed drug such as tacrine or donepezil they show undesirable side effects, that is no or minimal with herbal medicine. Memory enhancer herbs enhance the memory and increase the blood circulation in the brain.

Abstract

Ayurveda is known as the oldest healing science. Ashwagandhadi Churna is important in management of digestive and respiratory disturbances of all body types. It is useful for any imbalance in the muscles as it both reduces inflammation and strengthens muscle tone. It is having different ingredient which are having a wide range of uses in health maintenance. The quality control of Ashwagandhadi Churna which will assist the regulatory authorities, scientific organizations and manufacturer in developing standards.

Ashwagandhadi Churna (AC1) is consist of the fine powders of Ashwagandha and Vidhara in the ratio of 1:1. It is best remedy in tissues Debility, low body weight, emaciation, deficient haemoglobin, anaemia, post-convalescent weakness, athletic exertion. Ashwagandhadi Churna sample was prepared in laboratory according to Ayurvedic formulary.

This was evaluated by comparative analysis with the marketed formulations (AC2 and AC3) for their extractive values (ethanol and distilled water), Micromeritic parameters (bulk density, true density, angle of repose and Carr's Index) and Phytochemical evaluation. We also found the extractive values of Ashwagandhadi Churna (AC1, AC2 and AC3) in water and ethanol respectively indicating the presence of almost polar and semi polar constituents in Ashwagandhadi Churna. These analytical findings and data analysis revels that parameters like extractive values, presence of phytoconstituents and micromeritic parameters all remains in close proximity for each batch of the Ashwagandhadi Churna.

Abstract

Plant-based repellents have been used for generations in traditional practice as a personal protection measure against host-seeking insect. Recently, commercial repellent products containing plant-based ingredients have gained increasing popularity among consumers, as these are commonly perceived as "safe" in comparison to long-established synthetic repellents. There is a need for further standardized studies in order to better evaluate repellent compounds and develop new products that offer high repellency as well as good consumer safety. How often have we tried to enjoy the great outdoors or a restful night sleep only to be bothered by what seems like an army of insects attacking us? What is it that attracts insects to humans? Are some individuals more attractive to insects than other individuals? Since insects are vectors for many debilitating human diseases, understanding insect attraction to humans is very important. Study has shown that insects associate with humans at multiple stages in their life cycle. The mechanism of this attraction, i.e. CO2, sweat, ABO blood type, chemicals, body temperature, body humidity. For example, scabies mite, Sarcoptes scabies, which can cause intense skin irritation, has been found to be attracted by host odor, body temperature. CO2 plays a significant role in attraction for numerous insects especially mosquitoes. Other examples of insect attraction to humans include: kissing bugs and sandflies. Study has also shown that the common natural plant like Fennel, Neem, Basil, Coriander are having excellent insect repellent activity with medicinal significance.

Abstract

Weeds are unwanted and undesirable plants which interfere with the utilization of land and water resources and thus adversely affect human welfare. They can also be referred to as plants out of place. In crop lands and forests, weeds compete with beneficial and desired vegetation, reducing the yield and quality of produce. But it is also true that while all unwanted plant are weeds, all weeds are not unwanted plants.. Weeds are not unwanted plants for practitioners of Ayurvedic and other traditional systems of healing. For them, weeds are potenital sources of valuable life-saving drugs. In additional, allelopathic and industrial uses of common weeds have been reported. With the help of information available in ancient and modern literature, farmers can utilize these so-called unwanted plants (i.e. weeds) to generate additional income. The present paper is a review article on the weeds of Chhatisgarh and India. Here medicinal significance of 20 weeds of Chhattisgarh and 10 weeds found in other parts of Chhattisgarh has been discussed. These weeds like Boerhavia diffusa, Achyranthus aspera having the medicinal significance can be used for the treatment of many diseases, and also can act as source of income for farmers.

Abstract

Pyrexia or fever is caused as a secondary impact of infection, tissue damage inflammation, graft rejection, malignancy or other diseased status. It is the body's natural defense to create on environment where infectious agents or damaged tissue cannot survive. The therapeutic efficacies of many indigenous plants for various diseases have been described by traditional herbal medicine practitioners. The presence of various life sustaining constituents in plants has urged scientists to examine these plants with a view to determine potential wound healing properties. The Methanolic and Petroleum ether extract of the leaves of Cassia alata were investigated for its antipyretic potential in animal models. The extracts, were administered orally to Rats, it has been found that Mehanolic extract shows the significant Anti pyretic effect in the 6 Hours and reduces the induced pyrexia significantly. Cassia alata belonging to the family-Fabaceae commonly known as Candle Stick, is a common plant found throughout the India in evergreen forests and plains.

Abstract

The present study demonstrates utilization of functionalized seaweed polysaccharide, namely agarose–gallate (Ag–GA_Est) for the preparation of reduced graphene oxide (rGO) under mild reaction conditions. Ag–GA_Est obtained with the lowest degree of substitution (degree of substitution (DS) = 0.45; with 1 : 0.5 w/w agarose : gallic acid) shows excellent performance compared to its high DS (1.1; with 1 : 2.0 w/w agarose : gallic acid) ester derivatives. Further, the formation of rGO was confirmed using UV–Vis, TEM, FTIR, Raman spectroscopy, elemental and XRD analysis. This study describes a new application of seaweed-derived polysaccharides.

The diversity of the aeromycoflora at different height in this study, based on the recovery of fungal propagules by the air-exposing-PDA plating method was conducted in rainy season. The study showed that the most prevalent (major components) fungal spores in the air on different heights (0-10feet,10-20and 20-40feets) in kohka-Bhilai city were Aspergillus spp. Alternaria spp. Curvularia spp. Rhizopus spp. Penecillin spp. fusarium spp. The abundant genera on different heights were Curvularia, Aspergillus, Alternaria. Curvularia spp. Aspergillus spp. were the most abundant fungal spore type collected throughout the period of study on different height in kohka-bhilai city.
