Zooplankton composition and diversity in Ameenpur tank, Telangana, India were investigated during the year 2010-2012. The study reveals the occurrence of 55 species of zooplankton, of which 38 species rotifers, 14 cladocerans and 03 copepods. The population density varied from 195 to 5500Ind./L. The highest density of zooplankton was due to rotifer population. Diversity (H´) ranged from 0.6 to 2.45, evenness (J´) was 0.21 to 0.80 and species richness was 5 to 27. The population abundance because of Brachionus angularis, B. calyciflorus, B. caudatus, B. falcatus and B. rubens, Keratella tropica, Ceriodaphnia cornuta, Moina micrura, Bosmina longirostris, Indialona ganapati and Mesocyclops leuckarti. The significant inter and intra relationship between and within physicochemical and zooplankton indices were noted. Zooplankton diversity and physicochemical parameter reveal the change in the trophic status of Ameenpur tank.Keywords

The present investigation explored the freshwater ostracods from Telangana, India, between the years January 2013 to March 2015. The study was collected and documented eleven species of ostracods belongs to three families. All the species were studied under a light microscope and the detailed taxonomic features were drawn through camera lucida. Interestingly, Fabaeformiscandona subacuta and Stenocypris simulans were recorded for the first time from India. Cyprinotus cingalensis and Chrissia formosa were new to this region. Stenocypris hislopi originally described from India was synonymzed as Chrissia hislopi. But, the present study clearly reconfirms that S. hislopi has septa around the carapace margin and widely distributed from this region.Keywords

Globally, 55 species of ostracods belonging to the genus Fabaeformiscandona were documented (Martens and Savatenalinaton, 2011). The taxonomy and global distribution of the species Fabaeformiscandona subacuta (Yang, 1982) was reviewed by Escriva et al., (2012). It was originally described by Yang (Hou et al., 1982) as Candona subacuta Yang, 1982 from fossil of Neogene sediment (Jiangsu province) in China. According to Escriva et al., (2012) F. subacuta was recorded from China, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Australia and Colombia.Full Text
