This paper presents an experimental probe into the effects of carburising and oxidising flames on the surface finish in turning of aluminium metal matrix composite. The experimental design is performed by using 33 full factorial designs. The experiments were conducted by varying cutting speed, feed and depth of cut in three levels each by providing external energies of carburizing flame and oxidizing flame separately and test results were analyzed. The measured values of surface finish are subjected to ANOVA and the effects of parameters, speed, feed and depth of cut are estimated. From the obtained surface finish values, the comparison is done between carburizing flame, oxidizing flame and dry cutting. The observation of results proved that carburising flame assisted turning operation yields better surface finish compared to dry and oxidising flame assisted turning. The mathematical models were developed for three conditions separately by using multiple regression. Keywords
