There has been a tremendous increase in the suicide rates of adolescents in India. The etiology for suicide includes various factors like psychiatric illness, financial crunch and unemployment. Though many efforts have been made to reduce the suicide rates, they have not been very effective due to lack of empirical data regarding the cause of committing suicide. An effort has been made to review the causes of increased suicide rates among adolescents in India and suggest certain policy recommendations to curb the suicides. Keywords
