The Black-necked Cranes arrive in Arunachal Pradesh during winter months to keep away from cold climate of Tibet. They have been reported in the past from Gandhi gram and Apatani plateau areas of the State but at present they are restricted to Santhi valley and Zemithang areas only. The present paper is a study on its range, status and behaviour in Arunachal Pradesh.- In vitro Antigiardial Activity of Ethanolic Extract and Fractions from Phlebophyllum kunthianum

The ethanolic extract (D002) of the Phlebophyllum kunthianum (whole plant) was tested in vitro against Giardia lamblia and has been found to exhibit 100% antigiardial activity at the dose of 125 μg/ml. On bioassay guided fractionation of D002 by using the solvents of different polarity, n-butanol (F005) and aqueous fraction (F006) have been exhibited 100% antigiardial activity at the dose of 500 μg/ml and 250 μg/ml respectively. Fraction F011 prepared from F006 was found to be most active comparable to the D002 and exhibited 100% antigiardial activity at the dose of 125 μg/ml and number of live trophozoits of 13.48±0.97 at the MIC value of 62.5 μg/ml.Keywords

The following five new species of benthic foraminifera are described and illustrated from the Neogene sequence of Little Andaman Island, Bay of Bengal: Bulimina andamanica* , Cibicides hochstetteri* , Pararotalia geei, Fursenkoina indica, Ehrenhergina schwageri. Observed stratigraphic ranges are given for each species. All the new species described occur associated with deepwater assemblages characteristic of lower to middle bathyal depths. Those marked with an asterisk have proved useful, as zonal markers in the Andaman Sea region.- Effect of Protein Sources in the Starter Ration on the Behavioural Response of Suckling Buffalo Calves
