Abstract

Beijing is facing an increasing threat from environmental problems. Since the environment is a public resource, waste emissions from industries are non-competitive and non-exclusive, which indicates that there are competition relationships among industries in Beijing. In order to investigate these relationships in quantity, this paper employs a 2-mode network method to construct a competition network of Beijing's industries using data for 2011 and then analyses the competition network using network indices. Five kinds of wastes are considered: wastewater, waste gas, common solid waste, waste dust and hazardous emissions. Our main findings include: the manufacture of raw chemical materials and chemical products and the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products are under intense emission competition in Beijing. Industries are divided into three groups by waste emission. Two industries mainly discharge hazardous waste; six industries mainly discharge wastewater; and the remaining 12 industries discharge waste dust, common solid waste and waste gas. These relationships should be considered in industrial planning, and industries that discharge similar waste types should not be located close together.

Abstract

In this work the adsorption of phosphate using the Fe-Mn-Zn trimetal oxide modified fly ash was studied. The experimental results showed that the absorbent could effectively remove phosphate in the pH range 4 to 9 and the maximum phosphate adsorption was at pH 8.0. Kinetic study showed that the phosphate adsorption was well described by pseudo-second-order model. The removal efficiency of phosphate increased with the increase of adsorbent dosage and the decrease of the initial concentration. The adsorption of phosphate could be well described by Langmuir isotherm, the Langmuir constant Q0 was 19.22mg/g. Comparative phosphate adsorption study of the untreated fly ash and the modified fly ash showed that modification with Fe-Mn-Zn trimetal oxide could significantly enhance the phosphate adsorption of the fly ash. The Fe-Mn-Zn trimetal oxide modified fly ash was a potential adsorbent for the removal of phosphate from aqueous systems.

Abstract

The reservoir is very important in the arid region for water supply. It is of great significance for reservoir management and local economic development that ensuring the water quality safety. To make a quantitative research on migration-diffusion rules of contaminant in the reservoir, a numerical simulation on water quality of a reservoir in the arid region was studied. Taking Yazidang Reservoir as an example, three-dimensional hydrodynalic and water quantity model were constructed. And the model was validated with monitoring data. Utilizing the model, a research on migration and diffusion of COD and ammonia nitrogen and the distribution of water concentration when the reservoir is at different operative conditions was carried out. The results show: the diffusion of COD and ammonia nitrogen in Yazidang Reservoir is depended on flow field. And the migration and diffusion of contaminants vary in area when the reservoir is filling with water, specifically, the farther away from the inlet the affection by filling is lag.The change of contaminant concentration is small and the contaminant has seen a decreasing trend when the reservoir is not filling with water. So it is very important to ensuring the water supply quality of Yazidang Reservoir and the time of filling water should be set in light of its conditions.
