Abstract

Objectives: Batteries have to be charged with constant current when they have very low charge and have to be charged at constant voltage when they have high charge. Methods/Statistical Analysis: To take care of the above mentioned objective a bidirectional battery charger is developed which can work as buck converter to boost converter from one direction to another. The buck operation can be used to charge a low voltage battery from a high voltage source and the boost operation is for vice versa. Findings: A Magnetically Coupled Bidirectional Battery Charger, the low voltage battery and high voltage battery have smooth and stable transition from Constant Current (CC) to Constant Voltage (CV) that can be achieved using neither control loop nor any extra switches. Applications/Improvements: To amplify the dc input voltage to the required high voltage level, an LC-circuit with high quality factor (Q-factor) is employed, in which, to make and break a high current pulse through the inductance, a power switch of MOSFET is employed. Usually, energy is stored in an inductance, when the current is made to flow through the inductance and if this current is cut, then the stored energy in the inductance is transferred to capacitance, which results in a high voltage across the capacitor that is filtered to be used to charge the high voltage batteries.

Abstract

Background / Objectives: This paper narrates a novel strategy employing fuzzy logic for voltage profile enhancement and loss minimization in power systems. Linearized model is utilized and limit violations of control variables translated into fuzzy set notation. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The method adopted here for the voltage profile enhancement consists of certain number of load buses with definite VAR compensation schemes. In this work, it is mainly aimed to enhance the system voltage profile and thereby reducing power losses in it. Here, the linearization of objective functions and constraints is done about the current operating point. Findings: The equality and inequality constraints include dependent and independent variables. Later, power flow studies are used to calculate the limit violations of bus voltage magnitude and thereby a viable solution set that aims for voltage profile improvement as well as power loss reduction is finally obtained using appropriate operations of the fuzzy sets. In order to demonstrate the efficacy of this approach, IEEE 14 –bus test system is implemented. Application/Improvement: Due to the application of fuzzy logic, the control of variables in the problem is global and it involves less computational time and the results can have more accuracy.

Abstract

The proposed system used to design a Fuzzy logiccontroller system based intelligent power quality conditioner is consist both the series and shunt active filter using a common DC link capacitors. The proposed system used to eliminate the harmonics, voltage which is developed because of fault which causes failure of the power system. Intelligent controllers are used in nonlinear control system mostly. The proposed fuzzy controller is not in the need of a mathematical model and the produce a good dynamic response. The simulations carried out using the MATLAB software. The real time implementation of the proposed system is carried out with the use of power electronic components. The proposed system simulation and hardware results are similar to each other. The power quality conditioner is able to improve the power quality on power systems in industrial and in the distribution area.
