The experiments were conducted at Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour, Bhagalpur (Bihar) during the two consecutive Rabi seasons of 2006-07 and 07-08 to assess the efficacy of different levels of chemical fertilizes and microbial inoculants on quality attributes of hybrid cabbage. Five levels of chemical fertilizers (F1 - N80 P40K40, F2 - N120 P60 K60, F3 - N160 P80 K80, F4 - N200 P100 K100 and F5 - N240 P120 K120) and five treatments of microbial inoculants (M1-0, M2- Azotobacter, M3-Azospirillum, M4 - VAM and M5 - PSB) were taken for investigation. Among the various fertility levels of chemical fertilizers, N240 P120 K120 gave the maximum protein, phosphorus and calcium content in head of cabbage while ascorbic acid was higher at fertility level of N80 P40 K40.The plant developed under inoculation of biofertilizer Azospirillum produced the highest protein content in head where as microbial inoculants PSB or VAM gave maximum phosphorus and calcium in head. However, the interaction effects of microbial inoculants and levels of chemical fertilizers on quality were failed to touch the level of significance. Keywords

An experiment was carried out during Rabi 2006-07 and 2007-08 at Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour to find out the effect of inorganic fertilizers and bio fertilizers on dry matter yield per plant and NPK-uptake by plant from soil. Five levels of inorganic fertilizers (F1-N80 P40K40, F2 - N120 P60K60, F3- N160 P80 K80 F4 - N200 P100 K100 and F5 - N240 P120K120) and five treatments of bio fertilizers (M1-O, M2- Azotobacter, M3 - Azospirillum, M4 - VAM and M5 - PSB) were taken. The data of two years were pooled and analysed. The results of the investigation revealed that maximum dry matter production per plant and NPK- uptake by plant from soil was obtained at fertility level of N200 P100 K100. The interaction effect of inorganic fertilizers and bio fertilizers were also found highly significant. The plant grown at fertility level of N200 P100 K100 along with application of Azospirillum as seed and seedlings treatment as well as soil application gave the highest dry matter yield per plant as well as NPK - uptake by plant from the soil. Keywords

Earlier the PV system used to offer about 10 % efficiency only due to solar intermittency, generation losses etc. But with the increasing demand of enhancing the efficiency of a PV system, its power quality is also decreasing. For the purpose of better penetration and efficiency MPPT controllers, 6 pulse inverters etc. are being implemented which leads to the presence of harmonics at output. In this paper we have considered a grid connected PV system having MPPT controller, Inverter. Analysis is made to find the optimum maximized real and reactive power by varying no. of cells in series and parallel respectively.

High Performance Computing is mostly used for Scientific Research. Various atmospheric models are used across the world, but the Weather Research and Forecast (WRF) Model is a fully functional modeling system for atmospheric research and operational weather prediction communities. If considered the weather models through which we achieve real-time forecasting and climate prediction, they are very time-critical and need a strong scaling. In this scenario only clusters with faster nodes and processors are not enough. With the introduction of CUDA cards in market, the computing power has raised its bar. In this paper, we have emphasized on the efficiency and scalability of WRF model on ParamVayu a HPC cluster at National Center for Medium Range Weather Forecasting (NCMRWF) and also on the performance scalability using the GPU cards. This research was done for benchmarking WRF model performance using various interconnects viz. PARAMNet-3, Infiniband and Gigabit. The paper also discusses on ways to increase the performance by changing node to core configuration and the GPU acceleration of WRF model using GPU Tesla c1060.Keywords

Onion (Allium cepa L.) is most important vegetable crops grown and consume in India. Onion is used as salad and is cooked in various way in curries, fried, boiled, used in soup making, pickles etc. It is used as fresh and dehydrated forms and has many medicinal properties. Onion is export oriented crops earning valuable foreign exchange for the country.- In vitro Shoot Proliferation for Rapid and Mass Production of Quality Planting Materials of Bambusa nutans in the Climatic Conditions of Bihar, India

Objective: Bambusa nutans is a commercially important bamboo. The current study was undertaken for mass production of B. nutans in the agroclimatic conditions of Bihar.
Methods/Statistical analysis: Axillary shoot proliferation through tissue culture techniques was employed for this study. The aforesaid technique is the only method for the rapid and mass propagation of Bambusa nutans. Bamboo germplasm grown in TNB College campus was used as the source of explant. The various sizes of explants were selected to find out the most suitable for culture in the climate of Bihar. In each treatment of hormone, experiments were designed in triplicate and standard deviations were calculated. Hormone free cultures were used as control.
Findings: Out of various PGRs used for shoot proliferation, BAP (cytokinin) was found to be the most effective. With the increase in the concentrations of BAP, there was corresponding increase in the number of microshoots. Maximum initiation was observed when BAP was used in the concentration of 3mg/l. For most of the species of bamboos, NAA has been reported effective for ischolar_maining, however, we observed IBA comparatively more efficient auxin. The present findings (bud breakage, shoot multiplication, in vitro ischolar_maining and hardening procedures) will be helpful for rapid and mass production of Bambusa nutans in Bihar. This is the first in vitro culture report of bamboo in the climatic conditions of Bihar.
Applications/Improvements: The result obtained from this study has now set a defined protocol for rapid propagation of Bambusa nutans for the state of Bihar, which can help to promote economic upliftment of rural people.
