Abstract

Housing is one of the basic human needs in the world. Cost of the housing project is increasing each year. Some efforts and methods have been applied to project cost minimize such as productivity improvement, computerize in construction, improvement of project's control and schedule, etc. The construction cost is allocated for material cost, labor cost and other expenditure and mostly absorbed by material cost, which is a main source of construction waste. Then as an alternative effort and reasonable to cost minimize by increasing construction waste attention. Construction waste is difficult to avoid but enable to minimize. This paper objective would like to give evidence that construction waste has value. Furthermore, remind to project participants, that attention to construction waste is not associates to cost only but gives more benefits to the environment at now and future. This paper focuses on analysis of construction cost saving is considering the construction waste production. The amount of construction waste identified and measured at the housing project site in Yogyakarta city, Indonesia. Analysis of cost saving is considering three factors, namely (1) Purchase losses, (2) Collecting cost, and (3) Transportation cost. The research finding that a new house contributes 1.47- 1.53 kg per m² waste, and the construction cost saving is 3,312,998.46 - 4,892,958.14 IDR (minimum-maximum) and decreasing the project cost 4.91 %-6.04% per house.
