- Emphysematous Pyelonephritis in Diabetes: A Case Report

Introduction: Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a severe infection of the renal parenchyma that causes gas accumulation in the renal tissue.
Case presentation: A 58 year old female was seen in the emergency department on 20/4/15 with complains of fever with left sided abdominal pain since 8 days associated with burning micturaton. She developed loose stools watery in consistency since 4 days. No blood was seen in stools. Her chief complain on admission was shortness of breath. She was diagnosed to have emphysematous pyelonephritis and was successfully treated.
Conclusion: Patients with emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) should be treated with aggressive medical management and surgical intervention whenever indicated.
