A Study of Financial Activity of Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMCS) of Raipur District

Indian economy is primarily an agricul tural economy. The very existence of economic activities of the enti re peopl e is related to the state and heal th of this sector. In India, about 70 per cent of the peopl e are engaged in agri cultural and about 50 per cent of the national income originates from agricul ture. Hence the level of efficiency and productivity in agri cul ture more or less determines the efficiency of Indian economy. The need for regul ated market in India, because the sales are not done by the open auction system, the farmers interest i s often affected even in open auction there may be a taci t mutual understating among the bidders not to bi d high. For putti ng mal practi ces to an end, marketing commodities wi th strong representati on of farmer‟s interest are necessary. A number of unfair practi ces like short weights, unwarranted deductions and higher rate of commission and other market charges prevalent in most of mandis take away a substantial share of the price paid by the purchasers and pl ace the farmers at a disadvantage. In order to safe guard the interests of producers and consumers Agricul tural produce marketing commi ttees were formed. APMCs support the farmers in every aspect.. APMC has various sources of revenue income such as market fees, license fees, rent income, interest received etc. Profi t or loss of APMC depends upon the revenue earn by the APMC, that i s depends on arrival of agri cul tural produce in market yard .
