- Alteration in Pelvic Inclination & its Correlation with Lumbar Lordosis in Pregnant Women

Background: A cross sectional comparative study to explore whether pelvic inclination angle [PIA] alters during third trimester & correlates with associated alteration if any in lumbar lordosis angle [LLA] in primigravid womenMethod: PIA & LLA were measured with pelvic inclinometer & Flexirular respectively in a convenient sample of 100 Primigravid healthy women carrying single foetus in third trimester of pregnancy within age group of 21.61 + 2.29 years & 100 healthy age matched [22.07 + 2.41years] nulliparous controls . SPSS 16 soft ware was used to calculate unpaired t value with 95% confidence interval for comparing PIA & LLA respectively between two groups and Intra-group Correlation coefficient [r value ] between PIA & LLA in both groups .
Result : PIA in study & Control groups was found to be 3.340 2.57 & 5.140 2.82 respectively where as LLA was 37.750 12.87 & 44.880 12.36 respectively. Comparison of PIA & LLA between groups showed highly significant decrease [p < 0.0000 & p < 0.0001respectively ] in both variables in study group suggesting posterior tilt associated with lumbar flattening. In both groups Intra-group correlation showed moderate correlation between PIA & LLA [ r=0.66 in study group & 0.6 in controls]
Conclusion: Study showed significant decrease in PIA & LLA in Pregnant women. The LLA & PIA correlated moderately in both the groups.

Introduction: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is characterized by chronic airflow limitation, range of pathological changes in the lung, some significant extra-pulmonary effects, and important co-morbidities and risk factors which may contribute to the severity of the disease in individual patients. Once developed, COPD and its co-morbidities cannot be cured, so must be treated continuously. Treatment options include not only pharmacological & surgical therapies but also use of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT). If OMT can reduce pain & immobility associated with pulmonary disease, then it should increase thoracic excursion.Aim: To analyze whether the application of the Thoracic Lymphatic Pump without activation on COPD patients influences their lung function parameters.
Methodology: An Experimental Cross Sectional Study with 50 COPD diagnosed patients with COPD grade I - III according to GOLD guidelines were divided in two groups, 25 in Experimental Group(A) & 25 in Control Group(B). Pulmonary function test(Measuring VC, FEV1, FVC, FEV1/FVC RATIO, PEF and FEF) was the outcome measure. Group A was given the TLP manipulation and 10 mins nebulization. Group B was given only nebulization.
Results: There were significant improvements in the VC, FVC, FEV1, FEV1/FVC values of both the groups. The FEF values showed significant improvements in experimental group as compared to control group. The means of the difference between the pre and post values of both the groups showed no statistical significance.

Introduction: Pranayama (yogic Breathing) helps in breath control. It is easy to perform exercise having positive influence on cardiopulmonary factors. Pranayama is a known practice for its positive benefits on the respiratory parameters and functional capacity. Diaphragm mobility is a known tool for predicting exercise tolerance. However, the effect of Pranayamic practices on the diaphragm is not yet documented, thus explaining the purpose of this study.
Aim: To assess the effect of Pranayama on diaphragmatic excursion
Method: 30 healthy females between the age group of 18-24 years practiced Pranayama for eight weeks. Diaphragmatic excursion was assessed as a measure of respiratory effort on a portable ultrasound unit.
Result: The Pretest&post test values of diaphragmatic excursion were 33.81 + 7.85&38.01 + 6.05 respectively, having "t" value -4.07&p 0.000 which was highly significant
Conclusion: Pranayama showed significant improvement in the diaphragmatic excursion assessed on real time ultrasound unit.
