- A Study to Compare the effectiveness of Treadmill and Cycle Ergometer on Endurance in Normal Subjects

Objective: Endurance is the ability to work for prolonged period of time. Individuals of all ages can improve their general fitness & Endurance by participating in activities that include walking, biking, cycling, running, swimming, stair climbing, and weight training etc2. In rehabilitation centers we come across several patients for improvement of their general fitness & endurance. We used to give them training on Treadmill & Cycle Ergometer. The aim of the study was to compare the effectiveness of treadmill with cycle ergometer on endurance in normal subjects.Material and Method: Total 20 subjects divided in group A & group B (10 subjects in each group) Training using treadmill and cycle ergometer respectively was for continuous 30 days with progression regularly. 12 minute walk test walk distance was used to measure the endurance after training.
Results: There is no significant difference in effectiveness of treadmill & cycle ergometer on endurance in normal subjects. The value of tc obtained for walk distance for treadmill & cycle trainee is 0.1998 0.2
Conclusion: The study concluded that Bicycle Ergo meter is appropriate alternative to Treadmill for training in healthy volunteers. Training programme should be individualized.

Title: Effect of Deep Cranio-Cervical Flexor Training over Isometric Neck Exercise in Chronic Neck Pain and Disability
Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate whether a low load DCCF training program is effective in reduction of intensity of pain and perceived neck disability over conventional Isometric neck Exercise (INE) in subjects with chronic neck pain.
Methods: Fifty female between the ages of 17 to 25 years, with chronic non-severe neck pain were randomized into experimental or control group: a low load DCCF training plus conventional INE or only conventional INE respectively for 4 week exercise program. The outcome measures were VAS for intensity of neck pain and NDI for neck disability.
Results: At the end of 4th week follow-up assessment, the experimental group showed no statistical significant difference in reduction of pain intensity and percieved disability compared with the control group
Conclusion: There is no additional effectiveness of low load DCCF training over isometric neck strengthening exercise on chronic pain and disability.

Background and Objective: The Cranio-Cervical Flexion Test (CCFT) is a reliable clinical and research test to measure the endurance of the Deep Cranio-Cervical Flexors (DCCF) muscles via Activation Score (AS) and Performance Index (PI) by using Chattanooga Pressure Biofeedback unit (CPBU). In India, we use modified sphygmomanometer instead of CPBU for this test, but the data on reliability of the instrument is scarce. So present study was carried out to check inter and intra-rater reliability of the CCFT by using modified sphygmomanometer.
Methods: 50 subjects were selected from the age group of 17 to 22 years. For inter-rater reliability the AS and PI were measured on each subject by two different experienced Physiotherapists and For intrarater reliability the same was measured on two occasions with 7 days gape by the same therapist. ICCPearson was calculated to check inter and intra-rater reliability.
Results: For AS and PI good inter-rater reliability determined by the ICC= 0.709 and 0.752 respectively and excellent intra-rater reliability determined by the ICC=0.820 and 0.885 respectively.
Conclusion: The CCFT by using modified sphygmomanometer showed good inter-rater and excellent intra-rater reliability.
