Background: Hysterectomy is a surgical procedure performed in cases where uterus is surgically excised partially or completely. Although various treatments are available conservatively in the form of medicines and surgical conservation but still then hysterectomy is the commonest of procedure performed by gynaecologist globally. Most of the research in developing country especially in India is focused on clinical outcomes and a limited analysis of hysterectomy prevalence. The physiotherapy referral is also essential in such cases but the most of time the patients are not referred for physiotherapy. Hence the current study was undertaken.

Aim: "To know the prevalence of hysterectomy in Lata Mangeshkar Hospital during Nov- 2011 - Nov-2012." "To know referral about physiotherapy in patient who have undergone hysterectomy in hospital during Nov-2011 - Nov-2012."

Materials and Method: Cross sectional survey was undertaken in rural hospital in Nagpur, Maharashtra state, India from patients' records during Nov- 2011 to Nov-2012. Age, histopathology, type of surgery, post operative stay in hospital and referral for physiotherapy among patients, was collected.

Result: The prevalence rate of hysterectomy is 35.5% and referral for physiotherapy is 71.31%.Most of individual who underwent for hysterectomy was suffering from genital prolaps. It is of concern that the fertile age group i.e. 21-30 years also had undergone for hysterectomy.

Conclusion: Hysterectomy is still widely performed procedure even in rural hospital in Nagpur. And about 71.31% of their cases were referred for post operative physiotherapy.
