Alcohol addiction is simply defined as a compulsive need for an intoxicating liquid that is obtained from fermented grain or fruit. These liquids include beer, wine, and other hard liquors. One misconception that many alcoholic and addicts seem to have is that their drinking is not affecting anyone else. Many times they make statements like, “I am not hurting anyone but myself”. There is a great deal of research and a vast amount of anecdotal evidence that the behavior of addicts and alcoholics can affect everyone around them, including family, friends, employers and coworkers. Addicted family members are more likely to be violent or emotionally abusive, and when abuse is not a factor; households affected by addiction can be highly disordered, unstable and unloving. If one have a drinking problem and have children in home, they are being affected, sometimes so profoundly that the effects last their entire life time. The most vulnerable effects of alcoholism or addiction are the children. The children of people with alcohol problems usually suffer greatly. Children of alcoholics have deep-seated psychological and emotional reactions to growing up with an addicted parent. Children of addicts often grow up socially isolated and they tend to develop emotional difficulties and behavioral problems. As they grow up, these type of issues can lead to antisocial behavior, mood disorders, and drug and alcohol abuse. Children of addicts often develop feeling of anger and resentment towards their parents. Therefore alcohol addiction is recognized as significant barriers of the empowerment of children, with the consequences of child's health, their health-seeking behavior and their adaptation of the family norms. Studies have shown that a child may be more likely to follow in footsteps of his parents and have the same addictive behaviors. It is vital that children have a positive and honest relationship with their parents. Those who suffer from alcohol abuse need to seek help immediately in oreder to restore and improve the family relationship. There are many supportive groups and programs available to help those families that are dealing with addiction. the first step is realizing that one drinking has become a problem, and the second step is willing to do something about the problem. Keywords

The present study aims to examine the relationship of spiritual well being (SWB) with achievement motivation (AM) among the students of science and commerce streams. The concept of spiritual well being is becoming very popular among the researchers and the present day psychologists. It may be conceptualized as an expression about the spiritual health of an individual, about what his inner thinking leads him to do and how he performs in his life. Achievement motivation is a phenomenon which is affected mostly by spiritual well being in present day population. Achievement motivation can be said to be a need for achievement. It is an important determinant of aspiration, effort, and persistence when an individual expects his performance to be the best. In the present study, the Spiritual Well Being Scale (Paloutzian and Ellison, 1982) was used to measure SWB and Achievement Motivation Scale (Siddiqui Z.U., 2013) for achievement motivation. Correlation analysis was done to find out the relationship between SWB and achievement motivation. The result showed a negative and significant relationship (r= -.418, p< 0.01) between the SWB and achievement motivation and the dimensions of SWB, (Religious Well Being and Existential Well Being) were also negatively related to the achievement motivation. It was found that the correlation between SWB and achievement motivation was stronger among science stream students (r= -.457, p < 0.01) than the commerce stream students (r= -.390, p< 0.01), and also that correlation between SWB and achievement motivation was stronger among males than females. Keywords

Depression is an emotional state marked by great sadness and apprehension, feeling of worthlessness and guilt, withdrawal from others, loss of sleep, appetite, and sexual desires, loss of interest and pleasure in usual activities (Kring, Johnson, Davison,&Neale, 2010). The adolescence period is the best time to develop positive emotions and training skills, because adolescents are seeking to find their identity and their future personality at this period. Depression in adolescents has become a subject of considerable research over the last few decades. The present study aims to investigate the depression in relation to self-criticism and academic achievement among the students. The sample consists of 150 students (75 male, 75 female) were selected from the Senior Secondary Schools for boys and girls, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. The age of students ranged between 17 -19 years. In the study the tools used for assessment were Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-2nd, 1996), Self-Criticism scale developed by Gilbert et al. (2004). Self-criticism has three dimensions; inadequate self, hated self, and reassured self. Academic Achievement of the students was measured on the basis of the marks or grades obtained in the examinations consisting of first, second and third terminal examinations. Regression analysis was applied in order to analyze the data. The results of regression analyses revealed that, inadequate self was the best predictor of depression. Keywords
