Abstract

During the past two decades, HIV\AIDS has had a devastating impact on the health and social and economic well-being of populations in many parts of developing world. The continual spread of HIV\AIDS is an increasing global problem, with over 40 million people worldwide affected by the disease and over four million new infections every year. In addition to devastating the lives of individuals and families upon communities and countries. In 2003 alone, HIV\AIDS caused the death of more than three million people (All figures cited are based on UNAIDS, WHO, CDC data). That made it the number one killer among all infectious diseases. HIV\AIDS is a universal problem and must be recognized as such if it is to be fought effectively. However, often the poorest and most powerless are the most vulnerable from infection. Although prevalence rates in Muslim-majority countries often tends to be relatively low, rates are on the rise with the disease spreading from high risk groups such as injecting drug-users and sex-workers to the general population. Reasons for relatively low spread of HIV in Muslim are elaborate and convincing. Islam's greatest contribution to the HIV\AIDS epidemic is prevention. The Islamic position on morality, chastity and sanctity of marriage, needs to be shared with the world. Islam places a high-value on chaste behavior and vary clearly and obligatory prohibits extra marital and pre-marital relations. And moreover, Islam specifically prohibits adultery, homosexuality, and the use of intoxicants. Families must encourage and facilitate marriage, closing all doors that may lead to unlawful sex and pre-marital relationships. It is also necessary that prospective couples undergo HIV\AIDS testing before marriage. Muslims need to provide sex education and AIDS awareness programs from the perspective of the Qur'an and Sunnah to ensure that young receive this message within the framework of Islamic morals and values. The purpose of this paper is to highlight preventive techniques for HIWAIDS through Islamic teachings.

Abstract

Neuropsychology is a subspeciality of psychology concerned with the study of relationship between brain and behavior and thus it is primarily concerned with evaluating changes in behavior and cognitive functions associated with brain dysfunction by using psychological tests and other assessment techniques. Clinical Neuropsychology uses the principles and procedures of neuropsychology in clinical setting to understand brain related problems or clinical conditions, to intervene into them, to manage them, and to rehabilitate persons suffering from cognitive and behavioral problems due to neuropsychological impairments. Children with emotional disturbance are a heterogeneous group of people with a variety of strengths and needs. Much is known about the school and community factors that place young people at risk for developing emotional disturbance and about what must be done to improve school and community results for them. A number of researchers have reported an association between neuropsychological impairment and psychiatric disorders. There has been relatively little research on the neuropsychological functioning of emotionally disturbed children. The purpose of this study was to examine the correlation between the dimensions of Neurospychological functioning and emotional disturbance inMR children. The results indicated that there was a positive and significant correlation between the dimensions of neuropsychological functioning like orientation, attention and memory and between the dimensions of emotional disturbance like inability to learn, relationship problems and inappropriate behavior in MR children. Further, it was found that there was a significantcorrelation between dimension of Neuropsychological functioning and Emotional disturbance of MR children.

Abstract

The life of athletes is filled with the anxieties and experiences of winning and losing, hence, stressful circumstances are an endemic part of their living. Athletes face moments during competition that appear to carry great psychological significance. When momentum starts shifting from one direction to another, they are required to remain completely focused and calm. The journey towards peak performance is usually far from smooth and great athletes and teams suffer setbacks some times. The present paper attempts to study the attributional style in male and female athletes using Attribution of success and failure (ASUFA) Inventory. Results shows a significant inter-correlation among the dimensions of attribution style. However, no gender differences were reported.
