Role of Social Media on Psychological Well-Being of Adolescents

The aim of the present study was to examine the role of social media such as Facebook,Twitter,MySpace,Google+; Orkut on adolescent's psychological well-being. 200 adolescents (100boys and 100girls) of 19 and 20 years of age were randomly selected from Lucknow city of Uttar-Pradesh. Questionnaires of social media and psychology well-being were used for data collection. Results showed that 88% boys and 75%girls, 90% 19years of adolescents and 92% 20years of adolescents were engaged in Facebook site. 62%boys, 48%girls, 56% 19years of adolescents and 58% 20years of adolescents were engaged in Twitter site. These social media sites users showed significant relationship with their psychological well-being than other media sites users. Age and gender of the participants showed significant association with social media. The findings indicate more emphasis on research in the area of social media use among adolescents and its consequences.
