Impact of Non-Verbal Communication Training on Mutual Understanding

The study attempted to investigate the impact of non-verbal communication training (through a videotape and workbook) on mutual understanding among 60 couples from Kerman City of Iran referred to government and private counseling institutions and social support centers along with 60 matched control group. The test of  Mutual Understanding Questionnaire (MUQ) is adopted by the investigator using two instruments, namely the Interpersonal Communication Satisfaction of Htcht (1978) and the Interaction Quality Questionnaire of Jacobus (2005) to measure the mutual understanding. Repeated measure ANOVA was employed to find out the impact of non-verbal communication training on mutual understanding age, gender, number of years married, number of children etc, as secondary demographic variables. Results revealed that intervention program was effective in increasing mutual understanding. Results  also suggested that couples with high income showed better mutual understanding and couples with single child demonstrated an increase in mutual understanding.
