Radiologial Study of Appearance and Fusion of Lesser and Greater Trochanter and Head of the Femur in Bikaner Region in 12-20 Years Age Group

Estimation of age of an individual is a necessity for the law enforcement agencies in both civil and criminal matters more so in country like ours, since illiteracy is a common feature findings. Various workers suggest that there is variation in age estimation, not only in country to country but also in different states of India. Survey Committee appointed by Central Government recommended for a Zone wise study7. Appearance and fusion of different ossification centres with their corresponding bones has been proved to be a very good and reliable tool for this purpose. This study involves radiological examination of hip joint (AP view) of 165 individuals for the study of age related appearances and fusion of ossification centres of lesser and greater trochanter and the head of the femur in the age group of 12-20 years of both male and female in S.P. Medical College, Bikaner, Rajasthan.
