In contrast to reinforced cement or concrete matrix, fibre reinforced concrete has been found to possess good flexural toughness and resistance to impulsive loads. The improvement in these properties is dependent on the percentage of fibre used in the matrix and its type. Construction materials subjected to cyclic or impulsive loading have to be qualified for their toughness behavior. The energy absorption characteristics of the construction materials are especially important in the construction of the structures subjected to impulsive or blast loads. The present paper reports the results on flexural toughness characteristics of waste plastic fibre reinforced concrete beam elements. In the present experimentation, beams are cast with different volume fraction of waste plastic fibres (0.5%, 1.0%, 1.5%, 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0%). The toughness measurements of waste plastic fibre reinforced concrete were carried out via four point loading arrangement on un-notched beams. Experimental results reveals the waste plastic fibre reinforced concrete beams have much better load dispersion characteristics as compared to normal reinforced concrete beams. Keywords
