If we really look at what history has by and large done so far, we will really not be very proud of it. When we read historical literature, we see heavy reliance on linguistic, archaeological findings, astronomical data, genetics and other tangible things either individually or in combination of two or more of the above as evidence. These are taken as supporting evidences for conjectures about our past to be ultimately almost irrevocably accepted as historical facts, unless convincingly felled. But one has to employ the same method refute them, otherwise it is normally not acceptable in the community of researchers. This phenomenon has almost become like a dogma. As such despite their incompleteness, these methods are almost thrust upon us and serve as some kind of tools to implement an "epistemological anarchy"; where you are not allowed to change the rules of the game, borrowing from Paul Karl Feyerabend, an Austrian-born philosopher of science, who went on to profess that that all science is an anarchic enterprise, not a nomic one.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149890 Determinants of Foreign Direct Investment in India:A Study of the Pre and Post-Liberalization Period 2017-06-16T07:34:14+00:00 Ashulekha Gupta ashulekha26@gmail.com
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is an important instrument in the economic development. Data from 1980 to 1990 used as pre liberalization FDI trend in India and for post liberalization data is used from 1991 to 2010. Data from 1991 to 2014 has been used to identifying the determinants of FDI inflows. Empirical results revealed that market size, external debt, trade openness, Inflation and infrastructure are the important economic determinants of FDI. This study explores the factors that contribute to the explanation of FDI in India and test whether the variables do really influence the flow of FDI into India. This paper suggest that to make our economic policy more effective towards increasing inflows of FDI, infect results shows that infrastructure is the most important determinant has significant positive impact on FDI inflow in India.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149924 Taxonomy of Literature Based on Studies of Retail Development at Traditional Marketplaces and High Streets in India and Foreign Countries 2017-06-16T07:48:31+00:00 Shubhada Anant Athavale shubhananya@gmail.com Anand Govind Karandika anandkarandikar49@gmail.com
Traditional marketplaces and high streets have been a part of Indian and foreign retail scene for centuries. They bear heritage character and social value for the community. In every country, macro and micro environmental factors affect the retail development of an individual firm and a marketplace. It has been observed that some traditional marketplaces and high streets have flourished due to presence of national and international brands as an effect of globalization and liberalization. On the other side, few of these places have declined due to emergence of modern marketplaces like shopping centers/malls, online retailing and some other reasons. Every traditional marketplace or a high street has a unique character due to its physical and commercial features, which influences marketing strategies of retailers at these places. So, let it be growth or decline, in both situations it is advisable to study these places thoroughly.

Development in itself is historical in nature. Retail development is a historical process. So, study of retail development represents the area of historical research in marketing management. In the present article, earlier research studies related to retail development at traditional marketplaces and high streets been analysed with two objectives - (1) To check interest of researchers in historical perspective on marketing management, (2) To find out the topics, perspectives and nature of earlier studies on retail development at traditional marketplaces and high streets.

It has been found that in many earlier studies, researchers have written retail history as a part of social history. Other researchers have focussed on individual development of retail firms in terms of establishment of the firm and development of ideas, products and marketing strategies. The location where the stores under study exist has not been given much importance. There are more descriptive studies than analytical studies related to this topic. Most of the earlier studies have been either made one time or intermittently. They lack in historical perspective as time span considered in many studies does not exceed five years. In foreign countries, there is a growing interest amongst researchers for historical research in marketing, but in India there is not much awareness about need and importance of the same.

The present article strongly recommends the need for historical perspective on the study of retail development at traditional marketplaces and high streets in India. Each of these places should be considered as a separate topic of research by academicians and scholars.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149927 Understanding the Relationship between Demographic Factors and Different Styles of Managing Conflicts among Employees in Automobile Industry 2017-06-16T07:52:42+00:00 Vijit Chaturvedi vijitchaturvedi@gmail.com
Conflict is quite evitable in any organization and the only way to resolve is to understand and prepare employees to resolve it at right time and with right approach. This shortage of financial resources is caused due to gap between saving and investment. A number of factors affect the inflow of foreign direct investment, including variations in exchange rate and inflation rate in a country. The present study is conducted to explore the link between FDI and exchange rate and inflation rate. For empirical analysis it utilized annual data set ranging from 1975 to 2015 and applied econometric methodology of Vector Error Correction Method (VECM). The checking of time series characteristics of all variables is followed by testing the existence of long run relationship and finally estimation of short run and long run elasticities of the model. Major findings confirmed the existence of long run relationship between FDI and exchange rate and inflation. Major policy recommendations include the control on inflation rate and exchange rate volatility is important instruments to attract FDI inflows in Pakistan and hence raising the overall economic development standards.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149939 Perception of International Mobile Communication Service:A Study of Kolkata 2017-06-16T08:11:33+00:00 Soumik Gangopadhyay soumik74@gmail.com Anindita Bose anindita.cal@gmail.com
Growing customer's need for cheap, accessible and efficient communication modes has resulted in the phenomenal growth of cellular phone industry around the world in general. Through all of this, frontline employees have been a constant and critical factor in the quality of service delivery. Although all service quality measures allude to the role of employees indirectly, specification of measures of employee performance in the context of service quality remains a neglected area. Since quality is a strategic aspect, within the control of an organization, there is an urgent need for this. The present study has firstly, identified and investigated the influence of employee performance dimensions on customer perceived service quality. Secondly, the study has investigated the differential impact of employee performance dimensions on customer perceived service quality. Finally, the study has investigated the differential impact, if any, of employee performance dimensions on customer perceived service quality across different service categories.

The study has adopted a mixed-methods research approach using a two-phase sequential, crosssectional research design. In the first phase (Phase I) an exploratory study was conducted using qualitative methods to identify the dimensions of employee performance that influence customer perceived service quality. Eight dimensions of employee performance were identified: Empathetic Response, Absence of Manipulative and Unethical Behaviour, Expertise and Competence, Response to Service Failure, Not Withholding Service, Response to Customer's Mistakes, Going Beyond the Call of Duty and Listening Behaviour. In the succeeding phase, the researcher investigated the causal relationship between employee performance and customer perceived service quality and also the extent to which service industry characteristics influence this causal relationship.

The study offers insights and conclusions that have both theoretical as well as practical implications. The study endeavours to make existing models of service quality more robust as it clarifies dimensions of employee performance in the context of service quality, encompassing four different service categories. The conceptualization and measurement of employee performance dimensions in behaviour-based rather than outcome based parameters has significance for HR practice.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149952 "The Future of (Almost) Everything" 2017-06-16T09:21:17+00:00 Niranjan Kulkarni niranjankulkarni@vim.ac.in
Neither science nor technology drives future change as profoundly as human emotions - how people feel and what they want for themselves and their loved ones. So argues futurist Patrick Dixon in this snappy guide to near-future trends. He analogizes the future as a great, spinning cube, with six faces spelling out the word "FUTURE": "Fast, Urban, Tribal, Universal, Radical" and "Ethical." Skipping from rapid change in politics and conflict to the ethics of radical biotech to the rise of "personal spirituality," Dixon hurtles the reader up to 2030 and beyond, depicting a time of burgeoning diversity, promise and risk. Both conservative and speculative, Dixon offers a thought-provoking ride. I recommend his predictions to leaders, investors, entrepreneurs, students and all those who are thinking ahead.
2017-01-01T00:00:00+00:00 https://www.i-scholar.in/index.php/VBRVIM/article/view/149953 Business Transformation:A Case Study of Office Decor 2017-06-16T09:08:20+00:00 Pratiksha Wable pratikshawable@vim.ac.in
"Now we call upon Mr. Karimbhai on stage for his outstanding and meritorious performance in the Executive Programme in Family Business Management (EPFBM) batch of 2015" and the audience gave an applause to Karimbhai.
