Iodine is a trace element required for normal physical growth and mental development. It is one of the major micronutrient deficiencies, which causes hidden hunger. Iodine deficiency disorders (IDD) are easily preventable because the dally requirement of iodine is only 150 μg. Yet IDD continues to be a significant public health problem in 118 countries worldwide affecting 29 percent world's population. In India, out of 457 districts in the country, 275 have been surveyed for IDD and 235 have been found endemic. In the Tarai region of northern India, which falls in the endemic goitre belt, an overall IDD prevalence of 34 to 50 per cent has been found in different age groups.

It has been ranked the world's most cited scientific journal by the Science Edition of 2014 Journal Citation Reports, and is widely regarded as one of the few remaining academic journals that publish original research across a wide range of scientific fields. Academic Ranking of World Universities considers papers specifically published in Nature as a criterion for its world rankings. In 2009, Nature was named as the 'journal of the century' by the Bio-Medical and Life Sciences Division (DBIO) of the Special Libraries Association (SLA), USA. Needless to say, having a paper published in Nature is considered prestigious. The present study aims to show India's output in this journal.Full Text

Phosphorus is the second essential macroelements after nitrogen and its deficiency in soil is the major problems in agriculture. Moreover, large amount of synthetic phosphatic fertilizers are added in regular basis for maintaining the phosphorus deficiency but most of the fertilizers get precipitated in the form of different salts in soils and remain unavailable to the plants. Phosphate solubilizing microorganisms have the potential to solubilize the fixed phosphorus in soil especially fungi are found to be more efficient solubilzer than other microorganisms. Phosphatesolubilizing fungi (PSF) have been reported from various habitats such as agricultural fields, saline area, mines, vermicompost etc. Inoculation of PSF in plants results in improved plant growth and yield of several crops such as cereals, legumes, fibers, vegetables and other crop plants. Thus, the use of microbial inoculants particularly the PSF instead of chemical fertilizer have been found effective for growth and yield of plants in sustainable manner.Keywords

Pulp and paper mills are considered as a core sector industry and are the fifth largest contributor to industrial water pollution. Pulp and paper industrial effluent contains high diversity of xenobiotic and recalcitrant compounds and causes pollution. In pulp and paper industries, lignocellulose is treated by alkaline sulfide during which waste by product known as kraft lignin (KL) is formed. The toxicity and color of the plant effluent is due to the presence of Kraft lignin. Lignin is highly resistant to degradation by microorganisms because of its structural complexity, high molecular weight and variety of biologically stable linkages. However, a variety of microorganisms could be found in nature that degrades lignin involving Bacteria, Fungi and Actinomyces. This article reviews generation and impact of major pollutants present in the pulp and paper mill wastewater and their degradation through bacteria.Keywords

Introduction: Emergence of antibiotic resistance bacteria is one of major global problem and researcher are all focused to treat infection caused by antibiotic bacteria. Plants are used for their medicinal property from the ancient time. Plants are rich source of many phytoconstituents that do not possess any side effect. Material and methods: For the present work multidrug resistance bacteria were isolated from hospital soil sample and checked for antibiotic resistance by using antibiotic disk. The microorganisms showing resistant against more than three antibiotics were selected and identified by sequencing 16sRNA sequencing. Leaves extract of Woodfordia fruticosa, Adhatoda vasica and Ricinus communis plant prepared in ethanol, methanol and aqueous solvents were tested against for antimicrobial activity. Results: Two multidrug resistance bacteria Kingella Sp. and Klebsiella sp. showed antibiotic resistant against more than three antibiotics sequenced for 16sRNA same compared and identified by phylogenetic tree analysis using MEGA 5.2 software. Methanolic extract of all three plant leaves showed comparatively good antimicrobial activity against two clinical isolates.Keywords
