Abstract

Aluminum matrix composites reinforced with Nano-sized particles are widely used for high performance applications such as fields of medicine and engineering like aerospace, defense, automobiles and consumer goods because of their improved physical and mechanical properties. In the present research, Aluminium Alloy (Al6063) matrix was reinforced with Magnesium Oxide Nanoparticles with particle size of 15nm in the weight % of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3%. The process was carried out by stir casting technique at a temperature of 750°C. These Nanocomposites were investigated for the influence of cutting parameters on chips and burr formation in drilling of Al6063/MgO NMMC. The input parameters used are speed, feed, and material of drill tool (HSS&TiN coated HSS). The effects of feed rates, cutting speeds and the material of drill tool on chips and burr formation are studied.

Abstract

Hybrid Nano Metal Matrix Composite (HNMMCs) are the newly developed material which are gaining increasing attention for applications in aerospace, defense and automobile industries as a light weight, high strength materials. In this present work by reinforcing the varying percentage of (0.3% GNT, 0.4% CNT) and (0.5% GNT, 0.6% CNT) the HNMMCs samples have been prepared using stir casting process. Experimental studies are conducted on HNMMCs samples to determine the Density, Hardness and Electrical conductivity. For measuring the hardness using Brinell hardness tester and for electrical conductivity using four probe technique. Machining of any hybrid nano composite materials by conventional machining method is difficult because drastic enhancement in particular properties of composite. WEDM independent of mechanical properties. That's why use of non-conventional machining techniques in shaping of hybrid aluminum metal matrix nano composites has generated considerable interest as the manufacturing of complicated contours such as dies. Machining experiments are conducted on HNMMCs according to Taguchi experimental design (L₁₈) for different parameter combinations such as (T_ON, T_OFF, Wire Feed and Gap Voltage). The experimental responses such as Material removal rate, Surface roughness, Machine Time and kerf width are measured and also the influence of machining parameters like Pulse on time (T_ON), Pulse off time (T_OFF), Wire feed (WF) and Gap Voltage on metal removal rate (MRR), surface roughness (SR), Machine Time and Kerf width is studied and the machining responses are analyzed using AHP-TOPSIS method. The optimal processes parameters are identified by using AHP-TOPSIS.

Abstract

Composite materials are important engineering materials due to their outstanding mechanical properties. Aluminium materials are widely used to take advantage of their low density, corrosion resistance and combination of strength and formability, especially in the automobile and aerospace industries for light weight applications. In the present work Al 6101 is reinforced with B4C (8% wt) the AMMC have been prepared by using stir casting process. In this work we are studying how the helix angle of drill bit will Influence on the output responses of Drilling. Optimum levels of process parameters are identified by sine cosine algorithm (SCA).

Abstract

In the present days, automobile and aerospace sectors are showing more interest on aluminium metal matrix composites (AMMCs) due to their attractive properties. The machining of AMMCs by EDM is a field of attention for researchers as conventional machining of MMCs is complex and difficult. In this work, experiments are conducted on a composite sample of Al6101-Se/B4C/CNT called AMMC using EDM according to Taguchi experimental design for different parameter combinations such as electrode wire type, T_ON, T_OFF, and peak current. The experimental data of machining responses such as surface roughness, material removal rate, and kerf width are measured for each experimental run. Further, the influence of process parameters on responses is studied by analysing them and optimal processes parameters are identified. Analysis of Variance is also employed for the identification of the order of influential process parameters on responses. This study provides ideal machining condition which can be utilized to increase material removal rate, as well as to limit surface roughness. Finally, the experimental results are validated through confirmation tests.
