Abstract
The electron gun is one of the important sub-assemblies of the traveling wave tube. Molybdenum grids are used in the electron gun next to cathode. The grids are to be made out of molybdenum, a refractory material. It is hemi-spherical in shape. The grids are to be made out of metal foils with thickness ranging from 50 microns to 200 microns. The diameter of the grids ranges from 4.5 mm to 38 mm. The dimensional accuracy plays a crucial role in the electron beam transmission and focusing [1]. These grids have been formed using innovative forming techniques. The internal features have been machined out using nonconventional processes. This paper describes about the manufacturing&measurement issues connected with the development of Molybdenum grids.
