The Andaman and Nicobar Islands with c. 306 islands and islets are one of the richest bioresource areas of India that constitute one of the hotspots of biodiversity with a variety of ecosystems and high degree of genetic variations and equally rich ethnomedicinal tradition. About 2500 Angiosperm species are known to occur within a small land area of 8,249 sq. km of which about 13 % are endemic. This paper deals with 50 antidiabetic plants used in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which can be effectively used in the treatment of diabetes. Conservation of this Traditional Knowledge will open pathways for new drug discoveries.Keywords
