Botanical Observations on the Purulia Pumped Storage Hydropower Project Area, Bagmundi Hills, Purulia District, West Bengal

The paper presents a vegetation and floristic account of the proposed Purulia pumped storage hydropower project at Bagmundi hills, Purulia district, West Bengal. The primary impact of the project would be submerging of c. 4 sq. km. area of forest for construction of two rock filled dams. A total number of 246 species under 192 genera belonging to 78 families have been identified from the area, of which 54 species are ethnobotanically significant.
