A review based on the data on foliar sclereids retrieved from earlier as well as recent publications has been prepared. An analysis of the account indicates that about 430 genera belonging to 110 families spread over 47 orders have foliar sclereids. The majority of taxa exhibit diffuse pattern of distribution of sclereids and terminal pattern has been recorded in 45 genera belonging to 25 families. Their morphogenic importance is also referred.
